I am adding an amp and sub to my VE and wondered what people thought of it. Is it a good combo for my not so huge budget?
Here are the products I am looking at...
Ryda Car Audio -Aerpro SB12100 12" Sealed Sub Box($44.95)
Kenwood KAC-8105D Car Amplifier - RYDA Car Audio($215.85)
Kicker CVR124 12" Car Subwoofer - RYDA Car Audio($222.85) This will be the 4 ohm DVC
Any advice is appreciated. I'm not after huge bass and I listening to mainly rock and heavy metal.
Cheers,
Clint
Heaps of people rave about their "Kicker" subs, personally i'm not impressed. IMO the $200 mark is in a bit of no mans land, and the budget should be stretched somewhat.
you can get 2 kicker cvr's 12" posted from AUS for around $250
NEW PAIR KICKER 12" SUB WOOFER KICKER COMPVR12 CVR | eBay
i love this deal ^ haha
If you're not after huge bass, and like music that requires quicker bass, I would seriously consider a 10 inch subwoofer. Quite a bit punchier, at that price range you may find some woofers sloppy and all of the shop. Make sure you have a listen in store to see what you like, if you like the sound then it's good enough!
With a small budget, there is only so much you can expect, so don't set your expectations very high.
Can anyone suggest a better sub for that amp?
What does the rest of the setup consist of?
Problem with suggesting a sub is the budget. Like Magoo and myself have said, subwoofers in that price range are a little hit and miss. I'm not saying you should spend more, in fact you might find most entry level subwoofers, would be on par with most of those from the $200 price bracket.
If you didn't want to spend more than the budget you have listed, i'd honestly go with a cheaper sub. But remember spending more money dosen't just mean you get more bass, a lot of people get confused, and miss lead. Rock, and especially heavy metal music, are probably the genres that will expose a systems short comings the most.
I am about to add a 4 channel amp for the front speakers and while I'm at it I was going to add the sub and mono amp at the same time. I have already upgraded the original speakers to component speakers in the front.
Would I be better off buying a dual 4 ohm sub? That will then get the most out of the amp right?
Well you don't need a 4 ch amp just to run the front speakers. Spending less on a 2 ch amp will save you money which you could use elsewhere.
If your set on that amp, then yes a DVC 4 ohm sub will allow you to present a 2 ohm load to the amp. But don't rush out and buy anything just, yet, take your time, a lot of people buy an amp, and then are stuck trying to match a subwoofer/s.
Always buy the speakers / sub/s first, and the amps second. This way your buying the components that you like the sound of, which is the most important, matching an amp is an easy task.
I already have the 4 channel amp because I got it cheap so I'm stuck with it. I have no idea how to hook it up for 2 speakers though. I know hoe to connect the speaker wires bridged but what about the rca's?
This is my amp here...

Read your other thread, there's no need to have two going. Let this one die.

Hang on WTF !!
If you all ready have a 4 ch amp, just wire the fronts of 2 channels, and bridge the rears together to drive the sub then your done. Who told you to go and buy a seperate amp just to run a $200 sub?
Seriously are you guy's all going into the same shop and getting bad advice, or are you coming up with bad idea's all on your own?
I must be coming up with it on my own. Only reason is though I was originally going to amp all 4 speakers then changed my mind.
I was going to look at using the other 2 channels on the amp for the sub but thought it may be underpowered. This is my amp
Kenwood KAC-9405 Car Amplifier - RYDA Car Audio($245.85) would it be powerful enough to run the sub I am looking at?
Yes of course it will run the sub, but what i'm saying is it's not worth buying a mono block when you all ready have ample power available. Better off just feeding it whatever power the 2 remaining channels will produce.
