Is this sound deadening any good?
As in, is Dynamat and the like worth the extra couple of hundred?

Thanks
VKC
i wouldnt go for the cheapy stuff on ebay
how much do you need of it? and what is it for?
for the VP.. Im planning on doing the doors at the moment..
i brought this one, a bit cheaper than dynamat and it is pretty good since its a "bulk" pack would be usefull if you plan on using it elsewhere later on. > http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CAR-SOUND...item35b52ea746 someone else on this forum recommended it to me and it was a great buy
i think there are door kits you can get which provides just enough to do the doors only. (with dynamat)
As it says its for $147 or 9 and is comming from melbourne, its gonna cost you round same as Dynamat,
As i bought the bulk pack for Dynamat mat for $210 a month ago.
As dilevery to 2777 from melbourne is gonna be like $25 ,so there wont be much price difference .
So i would reckon go for Dynamat
Have a chat to Marty from FHRX, cheapest Dynamat prices in Australia. He does roughly ~$220 - $230 posted. Email: fhrxstudios@bigpond.com
If you can wait, you can pickup dynamat shipped from amazon.com for $170.
Don't go cheap stuff, in the summer it is likely to peel right off.
Cheers guys.. Ill go for the more expensive stuff..
Went to a local audio shop today, got quoted $280 for Mongoose (10 sheets of it) sound deadening.. Its a lot thicker than dynamat, and cheaper also..
I haven't used it, so can't really comment. Though, with cheaper deadeners Ive used and seen, though they might deaden the panel well, their adhesive is poor quality and will not last through summer. The quoted $280, how man sq. ft is that? Or m2 whatever you like .. From memory a bulkpack of dynamat is 3.35m2 / 36 sq ft
EDIT: Is it Mongoose 'Q Mat'?
Mongoose - What is Q-Mat ?

They had it installed in a VE, Tap the guard and it is like, well, tapping a guard, tap the door and you can hear that it is solid.. Appears to be a decent product.. They have been using it for years and it appears to work.. Seen their Valiant at summernats a few times and it hasnt been touched deadening wise
Yep, I believe it is q-mat
They're just trying to sell it to you over Dynamat because either they don't sell Dynamat or there is more of a mark-up for them on the Mongoose![]()
It seems your still trying to justify to yourself making a cheaper purchase. Just go with the Dymanatt, how many times does it need to be said in the thread to avoid the cheaper option, and go with the tried and proven.
If you want to do something on the cheap, get a breathing aparatus, take the door off, and begin painting them with tar.
Or just buy the cheap stuff. Think though, Dynamatt is the norm for a reason (well, many reasons)

difference between dynamat and other brands = pic of chip foose on the cover and the words "DYNAMAT" printed all over it.
adhesion isnt an issue as long as you use a heat gun and roller (or back of a screwdriver/hammer) its just sticky tar. i wasted a TONNE of cash on dynamat, then helped a mate fit some el-cheapo stuff to his HJ and there was zero difference.
They've got you fooled already
Thickness doesn't determine if a deadener is good or not. You need to do some research rather than listen to people who want your money.
Dynamat isn't even tar. You're wrong.

IS there anyone that has used Mongoose?
Excellent article, I found it interesting and informative and find no reason to disbelieve any part of it.
Asphalt is also known as tar or bitumen.
According to the article, Dynamat comes in several types, one is a mix of asphalt and butyl, and the other is butyl only. The butyl only version is more expensive.
You are both right....
The butyl only is the Dynamat extreme, the most common dynamat product these days, as far as I know those other Dynamat types aren't available anymore.
The whole point of a sound deadener is a common misconception, derived from the name. They are not designed to block out or 'deaden' the sound. These sound deadeners are actually made to add mass to a panel, to lower its resonating frequency and therefore reduce rattles etc. If you want to actually block sound out, I suggest you look at some MLV and a lot of other expensive products.
Therefore, the point of a thicker product is negligible. What you are actually after is a product that will add mass, while not losing its adhesion through weather changes. Dynamat is a tried and proven product with a great reputation, for being a great product and a little on the expensive side.
This Q-Mat seems like a decent product, but whether or not it is a tried and proven product I'm not so sure of.
I would highly suggest that you save $110 from not buying the Q-Mat, and buying the Dynamat from amazon.com instead.
Yeah, I was referring to Dynamat Extreme which is the standard product people buy. Dynamat don't even list the standard Dynamat now, I don't think they sell it anymore.
i was refering to stoneX's response. was like a 11 year old boys kinda comeback "WELL... YOU ARE!!!"
the main problem we are having here is that you guys may not have seen the car which this is going to go into. it belongs to VKC who has a history of doing dumbshit. its his first car, so he is GUARANTEED to smash it, the sound system he is putting in really doesnt call for top-of-the-line products, and its pretty much a huge POS (sorry vkc, but it is).
like i said i used another very cheap product on a mates car, and it stuck in exactly the same way dynamat did on my impala. i dont see a reason to convince VKC he needs to spend his hard earned pennys on top of the line stuff that is just gonna be scrapped in a year or two anyway.
See now the major thing I got from that quote was that ari has installed the expensive stuff in his impala, and the cheap stuff in his friends car, and couldnt tell the difference.
Surely all the technical stuff is irrelevant, and the bottom line is that the cheaper stuff had the same effect to at least ari's ears that the expensive stuff did.
The article that was posted did list a lot of technical benefits of the better stuff, but confirmed that they both stick equally well if you use a heat gun to apply it. The technical benefits may well exist, but if they are too subtle for your ears to notice the difference why would you bother?
Reading that article, and ari's personal opinion having compared both kinds, unless I lived in Marble bar and faced months of uninterrupted 40C+ days, there is no real benefit in spending substantially more. A little maybe, but if there are major savings in the cheaper asphalt stuff I would buy it. The only thing that maybe bothers me is the article says you continue to smell the stuff.
Is that the case in your friends car ari, can you still smell the tar on hot days?
