Default Tips on fitting 6.5" speakers to 6" pod

    Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has had experienced fitting 6.5" front splits (any brand, but the jaycar precision kevlars are the exact product) into their VS door pods and how they went about it, or if there was a reputable car audio store that fitted them for you to your satisfaction (in melbourne)?

    Any help appreciated,

    Cheers, Killer

i am just fitting some 6.5" to my VS, and am in the process of modifying the pods. what you need to do is cut the pod down where it protrudes from the speaker mounting surface. i used a hacksaw, there are other ways to do it. i then removed the basket cover from the middle, you may or may not need to do this. i used a hacksaw blade for this too. make sure you cut the re-inforcements attached to the basket cover with tin snips (or similar) to the same sort of angle as the other angled re-inforcements. clear off any burrs and crap from the pod. i came across this great product called plasti-bond (from selleys) which i used to fill in all the gaps, it is super strong, and easy to sand, drill, tap into etc. then, with a belt or orbital sander sand the face of the pod down flush. clean up the inside diameter of the hole with sandpaper. i needed no further spacers to fit the magnet inside the door. then, simply screw on your speaker and seal with silastic or similar to ensure an airtight bond. i can email photos or answer questions if you like.
