If your confident in your DIY skills then you may as well build it yourself. But if you haven't got everything you need, sometimes DIY can actually end up costing around the same, if not more.

I'm fairly sure i've seen those corner enclosures cheaper than that, but it's been a while. They need a few coats of resin inside though most of them.

Have you bought the subs yet, or is this part of a planned build?

I've seen a few of those prebuilt boxes, they are very flimsy, looks like 3 layers of thin mat at most, I wouldn't go near one unless I was putting extra layers down.

Fiberglass is itchy to work with, but if you have worked with it before it is quite easy to do.
Only downfalls is that it can be a bit shonky on durability, which is why i went with 18mm mdf instead of fibreglass.. i also did mine to fit snugly at the back so that i can fit in prams still in the boot.

My Custom sound system install - VX [+ how to +]
Im in the process of doing the sides and have the red LED's installed, ill get some pics up of the finished stuff soon.

If you need a hand im in the north brissie and will help with a custom install for just a few hours of my time

yeah i had a go at the fiber glass and gave up, too hard to do the top bit and just started falling off lol. (only used fiber glass once before)
i did however make up a box (just need to cut the top and screw that down then carpet it) out of 18mm mdf, which is sitting perfectly in the back.
im just not sure weather i need the padding in it? i was told its a bit like "throwing a pillow at a bass drum, taking the thud out of it" so i think il just take it out of the old box?

and your boot install will be handy for my sisters bf, she just had their kid and his current sub box has to go to fit the pram. il point him towards your thread

The stuffing used generally is designed to reduce rear standing waves. IMO not so nessacary for the low fq's that a subwoofer produces. Some people beleive also that by reducing, or slowing the rear waves, that the enclosure act's as though it is larger in volume. I have experimented with dacron, rockwool batts, and acoustic tile foam. I haven't found any noticeable improvements using any of them. Full range enclosures are a different story though, and can greatly benefit.

This is with building home stereo and home theartre enclosures though, not car audio use, but my dedicated listening room is a much better environment for testing. So if the differences can't be noticed in that type of situation, then it's a safe bet they would be negligible if installed in a car.

ahh i dont know if i got pics of it, but i did use sound deadening on the inside of the box, after reviewing the sound i like it however i am going to make a port to balance the bass up (i usually go 2x10 subs).

I run my sub (and amp) at 70hz range, its reponsive enough, but yeah i would reccomend a port with my setup, with the side mounted i would for sure since its bugger all literrage (20-30L tops).
My box has a 70L capacity, which is ample for my sub (or even 2 x subs of good calibre).

I think you'll find you're running your LPF at 80 or 63 hz (one octave) amplifiers in cars generally use one third octave bands, so 100hz, 80hz, 63hz, 43hz (Fairly sure, someone else please confirm)
