Hey Guys.
I've got an Alpine PDX1.1000 Monoblock amp (1000wrms + 2.2max power) and wondering what Dual 15" sub system would run both to their maximum?
My original plan was to run Dual Alpine Type R 12" subs however recently had an alpine r 15" in compared to my usual Alpine r 12" and found the 15" makes noticeable difference which i preferred.
So wondering what Dual 15" subs to suit my amp.
Thanks in advance.
Any 15" sub that needs 300 - 700wrms of power at 4ohm, grab two of them and wire them down to 2ohm.
You basically just need a sub with single 4ohm or dual 2ohm voice coils, so you can have a final load of 2ohm for your amplifier.

Not gonna lie, not a huge understanding of ohms so i dont understand it very well. Ohms are resistance? So if you run at half the resistance twice the power goes through? However i vaguely remember lower ohm is more ? failed physics D:
But i still really value your input, had a look through your thread looks like you really know what you're talking about.
Also just occured to me, would it be better running two 15's at 500rms each or one at 1000rms?
Depends what you mean by better, and depends on the sub(s) in question. Ohms is the unit to measure resistance. You can change the resistance by wiring in a series or in parallel. By wiring 2 4ohm woofers in a series you get a final load of 2ohm. Take a look at these wiring diagrams Subwoofer Wiring Diagrams
But remember your amplifier is only stable down to a 2ohm load, so if you try and feed it a 1ohm load it will go into protect or really harm the amp.
Any particular reason you're going for 15's? Are you going for a sealed or ported box? There are often better subwoofers out there (better than Alpine Type-R, Kenwood, Clarion etc) for less money, but 9/10 times when they are suggested people don't like to listen, because they haven't heard of the brand (often a less known high end brand) or have misconceptions in their head. Dual 15" subs will take up a huge lot of room, even in a sealed box. For a decent ported box you would hardly have a lot of boot space left.

Ah sorry mate, typed a bit quick without thinking. Thanks for the fix up.

Thanks for those Diagrams Sweefu.
Will be using this one = http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchf...4-ohm_mono.jpg
However, i dont understand what would change if i wired it down to 2ohm as the amplifier specs are the same at 2ohm as they are at 4ohm. (1000watt RMS)
Per channel into 2 ohms : 1000W x 1 (<=1%THD+N)
Per channel into 4 ohms : 1000W x 1 (<=1%THD+N)

Most likely be going for a ported box, I've had both Alpine Type R 15 and 12 and the one thing i didn't like about the 15 was the response time (listen to a lot of double kick drums and the first hit sounds great but noticably less thereafter; which i thought a 12 would be better. So i got a 12" and found that they're virtually identical however the 15" just had a bit of an edge in the popdoofdoof shit i listen to with girls around.
(Could be because a 15" is 750RMS compared to the 12" 500RMS)
Both however were in cheap sealed boxes, the 15" was in a massive box and the 12" was probably close to a third of the size of the 15. I've never fiddled with box designs/effects but will do once i've got drivers planned.
I also haven't used any other brand besides Alpine (except for my 4ch cadence amp) due to my friend swears by them and by how my car sounds at the moment, i do too.
But i do want to run everything as best it can without any wasted power.
Cheers.
