Default Custom VE sub parcel tray enclosure

Okay all i have installed in my Series 2 SV6, Alpine type R splits up front and type S 2 ways in the rear doors and i have installed the standard 8" subs in the parcel tray. All are running off an Alpine MRX-V60 5 channel amp which i think was made for series 2. It has speaker level inputs which act as the remote switch also and it works a treat with the whole taking the key out and stereo still playing till the door opens business. Have not had a problem with it to date.

Now, i know i have been told this many times before but, yes, the free air subs just arent giving me what i want. I know they are just the stockies but i can tell if i put anything better in there its still not gonna give me the sound im after. They play well and give a nice amount of bass but just distort too early i assume because they are free air and have to pump to hard to give a solid amount of bass.

Now the question i am asking is, i want to attempt one last thing before i install a sub in a box in the boot. If my thinking is correct, i am thinking about custom building a box in the boot which will sit right below subs in the tray and basically from the boot look stock as because they'll be carpeted and it will look like the shape of the boot and then will obviously enclose the subs to allow them to give a more true sound.

Has anyone done such a thing, if so, some info on how it sounds and pics will be great. I really want to refrain from installing any subs in the boot if i can and i know im just creating more work for my self but just want to try and do something different but still stock if you know what i mean.

This would be better asked in the Car Audio section.

I'm sure it's do-able but you still may not get the sound you're after with just the factory subs. Perhaps changing them for some better 8 inch subs and enclosing those would be the go.

if you can be swayed, the back rh section of the boot is the best place to get a fitted sub. Most places that do custom fitting for around 300 bucks will carpet the sub box and everything, and while it doesn't look 100% stock your car isnt 100% stock anyway. But if you are happy with what the 8inch's are giving you go nuts. I'm planning on having it done and the pictures I saw looked really good, and took up very little boot space at all. just some food for thought.
