so i got my car a few weeks back and i am wanting to get all new speakers for it and a sub.
i have a Holden VS Calais SeriesII i am going to replace the two front door speakers and the two rear speakers. and get a sub in my boot.
but i cant really decide what speakers are best for me, i am looking for a nice low hard hitting bass!
i am into a all different sorts of music im not that fussy, but i mainly listen to Rap/HipHop, Dubstep, Drum & Bass.
i dont know what front door speakers i want.
i was thinking for my rear speakers i would get some 6x9's. (but is it really worth it if im going to have a sub)
and for my sub i am going to buy: Dual 12" JL Audio subs CP212-W0
and would it be smart to invest in some tweeters ?
You were right to think the 6x9 were not needed with sub - they are not. If you want to replace the rears, just get some 6" coax. speakers. For the fronts, what is your budget? Time and time again I just Morel Tempo6 / Maximo6 depending on budget ($200ish and $300ish respectively) and both perform very very well in their price range.
Tweeters will come with your component speakers for the front and same with your coaxial rear.

I can vouch for the Morel Tempo 6, mine cop a beating and sound flawless, and aren't yet in a properly sealed door with decent baffles etc.
Let us know your budget, whether you'll be amping the speakers etc.
I would go single 15" sub. Ive got a Rockford Fosgate in mine, sounds unreal!!!
yeah im not too sure on budget yet, im after quality really. so what every it costs for nice sound
and about the amping what do you think i should do ? :\
because should i get a amp just for the sub, or get one for the sub and the speakers ?
If you havent done it already then I would buy a decent 4 gauge wiring kit, this kit includes everything you need for a single amp setup. (RCA's, Power and Earth cable, remote wire etc.)
If you want a nice clean loud sound then definitely use an amplifier for the speakers and the sub/s. IMO best arrangement is to go with one 4 channel amp for the speakers and one monoblock for the sub/s.
If money is a bit tight then go for a decent 4 channel amp just for the front speakers and run the sub/s bridged off the rear channels on the amp then run the rear speakers off the headunit.
Hope this helps

take the rear speakers out of your budget and improve your chances of getting some components that you won't be dissapointed with
Using an amplifier to drive speakers?
Must be some sort of new fangle technology![]()

how much would it cost for the front and back speakers, and amp for them ?
$35.45 plus gst . .
dont need your unwanted comments mate.
What is your budget? That is how much they will cost, you could buy everything you need from the tip for $40 or you could buy it all for $35 000

You might not want them, but you certainly need them. Otherwise why else would you be asking advice for.
Perhaps you should give this a read - Planning A System On A Budget and if you don't take my advice, at least listen to the advice given by sweefu, and answer some of the questions raised to you, before you go asking any more, otherwise your not going to get anywhere.
The best idea would be to go and sample some speakers from a sound board at your local car audio outlet.
As for the amp.. you want an amp that closely matches the RMS input of your chosen speakers. Also take into account speaker sensitivity the more sensitive the speaker the less power it will take to drive it.
I grabbed an article which should describe it better (there are also other technical terms as well when it comes to speakers).
Speakers Glossary
Sensitivity
A sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power (watts) into volume (decibels). The higher the rating, the louder your speakers will play with a given amount of amplifier power. Sensitivity is often measured by driving a speaker with one watt and measuring the loudness in decibels at one meter.
The chart below illustrates that a few dB in sensitivity can make a big difference:
Speaker Sensitivity rating Power needed
to produce a given volume
Speaker A 85 dB 100 watts
Speaker B 88 dB 50 watts
Speaker C 91 dB 25 watts
A speaker with a sensitivity rating that's 3 dB higher than another speaker's only needs half as much power to deliver the same amount of sound.
I find it is better to slightly overpower your speakers rather than underpower..
One of the biggest killers of speakers is underpowering.
Hope this helps
