Hey guys,
This is my first post as i have just bought my commy a few weeks ago and been perusing your site for awhile now getting stacks of information.
Thank you in advance.
Now i am looking at upgrading my audio system from complete stock now tooooo;
Kenwood DPX-U5120 Double DIN Receiver: Headunit
Boss PC65.2C 6.5" Component Speakers: for my fronts and tweets
Pioneer TS-A1684S 6.5" A-Series Speakers: for my rears (i normally sit in front so rears not as important lol)
PAC SWI-RC Steering Wheel Control Interface: one of these to keep my steering wheel controls
I am contemplating the VT-VX Commodore FULL KIT swc harness/iso/patch/tool from ebay (eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d) possibly instead to save me purchasing a harness aswell.
I am just querrying if you believe i would still need an amp to run them speakers? 1
If i really need to replace the rear speakers as the fronts i believe would already make a huge difference? 2
Any other suggestions on equipment instead of what i have suggested? 3
And finally will that headunit support the thing from ebay and will it control my antenna? 4
Any help is appreciated thank you very much guys
Brandon
BTW i have a 2002 Commodore Berlina series 2 VX
I'll work through your post in order.
First up, do you have a budget mate?
An alternative to the Kenwood is the JVC KW-XR616, ~$50 cheaper, same features and (IMO) looks better
Generally Boss gear is considered to be rubbish. Depending on your budget I would recommend Morel Maximo 6" splits or Morel Tempo 6" splits.
Rear speakers are not needed, unless you care about rear passengers that much. A good pair of front speakers like the Morels above will sound loud enough for the whole car. Think of it this way, you are at a music concert watching the stage, you expect the music to come from in front of you. If you have rear speakers, you ruin your sound stage.
I bought a kit just like that for my vy commodore from that seller, works wonders.
1) An amp is preferred, but you can get away with running the fronts from the headunit.
2) I would not recommend getting rear speakers.
3) As suggested above. I would also recommend you source a door kit of dynamat and seal the doors as in this article.
4) Yes, your antenna will still go up and down automatically. I don't think you need an antenna adapter for the VX, VY/Z had European plugs, but I don't think the VX does.
i run my fronts and rears off my HU, and run my two subs off a 1000w amp. goes hard lol.
btw welcome to the forum good to see some locals on here.

For the fronts, some components will sound a lot nicer.

okay thank you.
just wondering where the tweeters are located already in my car (if it has any) and would some tweeters i buy with components fit in these holes already or would i need to put tweeters somewhere else?
If you go out to your car and look up at the top of your dash, there are 2 vents towards the corners of the windscreen. There are stock tweeters in there
Components are much better. You didn't inform us of your budget, so I'll ask again, what's your budget.
okay so after many considerations decided i like these speakers
Infinity 6030CS 6.5" Component Speakers and would be willing to spend that much and will go with the previously stated JVC headunit
JVC KW-XR616 Double Din Receiver just them 2 for now will look at finally purchasing next fortnight or the fortnight after depending on how big of pay cheques i get lol. love the uni life :/
Would that all work well. still pending on the tweeter spots tho on if my car has original spots or not that they would fit in?
oh sorry and well my budget is as much as i like to spend i am willing to wait a tad longer if it is better but i am just after a sound with real nice clarity and to be able to turn it up quite loud but without having any yuckness in noise lol
so tweeters from that infinity components would just slot right in there?
Generally speaking the majority of tweeters from 2-way component sets will fit. That's pretty general, but applies to all the normal 2-way setups that 98% of people look at, such as the infinity set there. 1" tweeter will be fine.

so thats roughly 400 for speakers and headunit, 100 for dynamant stuff? and 200 or so for installation hence $700
hopefully that will get me sounding nice in approximately 4 or so weeks when i have more money lol then time to save once again lol
I don't quite understand why you wish to go for the Infinity speakers, from what I can see by a quick google there is no real hype about them.
I would highly recommend you go with a tried and proven product like the Morel Maximo 6" component set, I bloody love my Morel Tempo 6". Morel is a very highly respected brand within the advanced audio community.
Read this article for budget speakers.
buy me a carton of booze and il install the gear for you, have a look in my ride thread, i done my whole stereo and mates cars all the time.
