Default Needs a little general info on 6x9 subs

so i went out and brought myself a Kicker 150watt sub, and a 125.2watt amp, and now i am looking at buying some 6x9 subs for the back parcel shelf, but before i do so, i would just like to ask a few things.

    1. Are they worth getting? as in, will i really feel the difference in the car?
    2. would i need another amp, or can i just upgrade to a bigger and better amp and only have one?

    cheers guys

You already have a sub, why do you want "6x9 subs"? Do you even mean "6x9 subs" or 6x9 speakers?

    1. No.
    2. Another amp or upgrade your current 2 channel to a 4 channel.

6x9s aren't subs, they are more woofers, and are not needed if you already have a sub.

    What?

Subs are woofers, as in subwoofer. A subwoofer plays subbass frequencies. A 6x9 SUBWOOFER will play those frequencies. They are quite uncommon though so you have to assume he's talking about plain old 6x9 full range speakers.

Ok ok, technically its midbass in a full range 6x9 but they do make 6x9 woofers only

Being a single full range speaker trying to play the full range of frequencies, it will sound like crap from a sound quality point of view.
But the fact of the matter is: 6x9s roughly have the same cone surface area as an 8" subwoofer, meaning the amount of air mass they can move is increased.

In my opinion all you are doing is buying very basic, crappy components and then adding to it by buying more crappy components. IMO you should have started with a <$300 pair of splits to replace the crappy stock speakers, such as Crescendo Opus 1s, Morel Maximo 6"s or Hertz ESK-165 and then gone from there. Almost any budget kicker, alpine, pioneer, kenwood etc. etc. gear is all going to sound similar and bad. Adding more budget "big named" gear to the equation doesn't make it any better.

6x9s are shit from a sound quality aspect, as they ruin your sound stage. If you are at a concert and you face the stage you expect the sound to come from the front. The same goes for your car, a good pair of front splits properly installed improves the highs, mids and mid bass, as well as stage height, width and depth.

Tl;Dr: Save your money until you can afford a good quality set of front speakers, like the ones in this article here.
