Hi all,
Just a quick question that hopefully some you audiophiles out there can help me with.
I was gifted a pair of 6 1/2 inch speakers to replace the standard ones in my ute but have read in the forums that the standard units are splits, the new set are coaxials. Do the tweeters need to be removed, or disconnected or do I just hook the wires up and go from there?
This may seem obvious to some folks out there but this stuff isn't my forte.
Thanks in advance....![]()
There's no need to remove the factory tweeter, simply disconnect the wiring to it. (cut it wherever you want doesn't matter)
A coaxial isn't really the best replacement as the tweeter in the middle of the midbass driver low down in the door can affect the height of the sound stage. If you think the coaxials are better quality than the factory speakers, try them out. If you find you don't like the difference with the location of the new tweeter, you can always dissconnect it and use the factory one provided both the impedance are similar.
Make sure you take the wiring for the new speakers from the wiring going to the factory mid bass driver, don't take the tweeter wiring otherwise you'll be grabbing a wire with the capacitor still connected to it.
Okay thanks. The speakers are JVCs.
