Hi all,
Finding it pretty difficult to find any information about touch screen head units. Just looking for a decent touch screen head unit for my VT...
Looking for:
Ipod/iphone connectivity
Bluetooth
CD Player - Dvd is a bonus
Decent looking display (colours, video etc)
Detachable/motored face not much of a biggie
Preferably not too laggy/faulty with the touch
And just general all round good reviews - really struggling to find anything online.
Hoping for some helpful detailed replies
Cheers
Also, if everyone is convinced that touch is not the way to go, then decent head units with similar capabilities would be great..
My Sony single din head unit died the other day, the buttons on the face don't work (except source) so i'm looking for a new one. Preferably not Sony I'm thinking.
Hey mate, check out the pioneer ones, I've got a avh-4350 and it's great, they have changable background and colour of buttons, easy to navigate, iPod control and easy to find a song, has motorized face, 3 RCA outputs, has input for all the reverse cameras,
Doesn't have Bluetooth which I wish it did but it has a Bluetooth kit available for about 120 bucks.
I think u paid just under 400 for it new from America, really happy with it and would highly recommend it.
Hope that helps.
I had a clarion vx401 or something and didn't like it at all so sold it

Your best bet is the Pioneer Clearance shop. Plenty of bargains found here.
Wow that shop is great! Wish I knew about it before I bought my head unit.
Will double check the model for you when I get home, but mine is also a Pioneer. Fairly basic model, most of the features you're after except Bluetooth. (Picture of it in my car here: http://i.imgur.com/RhIHC.jpg - phone picture sorry)
Playing around in stores the Alpine ones seem a lot more responsive but you'll definitely pay for it. The biggest drawback of my headunit is the seek time (initial play time) from the SD card or USB is quite long (about 20 - 30 seconds) which is very irritating. There is also a noticeable break between songs that doesn't seem adjustable.
This is with a Class 10 16gb SD card.
I have just fitted this unit to my VU ute. It was a gift from my son and seems to be ok.

Not a major brand name but the features are pretty impressive.
I have an Alpine unit, only takes about 10 sec to start up and play off an ipod seek time in barley noticeable but they are quite expensive, alpine also have a deal with apple that they get any new updates 6-12 months before it is released to anyone else...
build your owncarpc, touchscreen, itunes, gps, what ever you want
just thinking outside the box
I have a Clarion VRX766VD, it's an old model (2008) I think, but it is an awesome unit. It doesn't have Bluetooth though. Plus it cost me $2100.
do it, but i will suggest you check out mimics over on mp3car, comes with a dock that way your not leaving your tablet in your car. worth a check out.
Amazing feedback, was not expecting this! Thanks for all the info so far guys!
Will be looking into the Pioneer and if I feel like really spoiling myself, maybe the Alpine ones also.
Cheers!!
Carputer sounds great, but don't think I have that kind of dedication lol.. We'll see though.
EDIT:
Just had a look at the pioneer website at the 4350.. Looks like EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Got everything I want.. inc Rear usb. Thanks mate!
I do believe the OS' are released to developers early so that they can make adjustments to their apps according. To say that they get it 6 - 12 months earlier is a load of crap.
Alpine has had several issues over the years with compatibility after OS updates along with most other brands, so I find it hard to believe.
My missus has this one Kenwood - DDX4038BT in her Landcruiser. I fitted it, very simple. Has Bluetooth, Ipod, USB, 2 x AV inputs as well as a 3.5mm jack. Has reverse camera connectivity too. Fitted up a reverse camera to it as well as a front camera.
Yup, comes with everything except navigation. This one only cost me about $799 where as the one with the maps would have cost me over $1500 i think it was. (bought a HUGE GPS screen off ebay cheap as that came with a free reverse camera, which we ended up installing in the front)
Kenwood i have never been a fan off, but this is the only one i found that had everything i wanted.
CD player
Bluetooth (automaticlly connects and mutes when there is a call, and it download your phonebook from the phone so you only touch the touchscreen and don't have to touch the phone at all)
Reverse camera output
Forward camera output
DVD player aswell
and it's a great looking unit
plus you can connect your ipod into the front of it, and it has a usb cable to plug in whatever else you want to.
Fantastic unit, and i have used the bluetooth quite a few times, and the clarity is brilliant!!
Secret is to put your microphone (which comes with the unit) in the centre of your car closest to the rear view mirror, as it takes away the noise from the wind rushing past the window.
Highly recommend it, easy as to use.
