Hey all
Basically, Im wondering if it worth messing around (RCA out, AUX in modification by ASR) on a VY 6 stacker, or if I would be better off going for an aftermarket one.. If I go aftermarket, id like to get a 7" touch screen, preferably dual zone with GPS, iPhone control, Bluetooth etc.. (heard some good things about Eanon for their price..) Main thing id really like to keep is the steering wheel controls..
I don't care that it doesn't have teeth shattering bass, im about quality.. Setup will be either the aftermarket HU or factory one modified, amps to all the speakers (1 channel each, Basically how I have it set up in the VP now) and most probably a 15" sub (15" cause I have sub, amp & box sitting next to me doing SFA at the moment, and I haven't used it since I bought it..)
Can anyone shed some light on how they blaupunkt goes quality wise?
Cheers guys
VKC
It really comes down to what you are after. Aftermarket headunits obviously offer extra features, do you want / need these features?
The sound quality generally increases as you spend more on the head unit, but it also comes down to the file, format ect of the music you send to it. Not many people these days still play cd's, so how you rip your music and whether you compress it or not to fit more on your portable music device will make a big diffierence at the end of the day.
Personally i would get an aftermarket head unit. Unless your dealing with fully integrated units like the VE, or other cars, then there's really no point in sticking with the factory unit IMO unless there's motive behind it.
I would like the other features (like on the Eonon one), but I would really like to keep the steering controls..
All of my music is in 320, so there is nothing really wrong quality wise on the device, so itll come down to the hardware side of things..
The VY system is integrated also though (volume, channel etc.. show up on the cluster)
In the end, the Eonon unit us <$300, but as you said, you get what you pay for..
Back @ Shopping Secure, I remember there were a few half decent 7" ones with GPS, iPhone etc.. for <$500, might even look at them..
I personally wouldn't bother with any of the Eanon units, yes they have the features, but the sound is where they suffer. You could probably find something 2nd hand for that sort of money.
depends wat ur budget is? the cheaper option would b 2 get the ASR Mod done as u can then keep ur steering wheel controls with out having 2 spend extra on another unit 2 make them work and u can still build ur own system that will sound as good as the money u poor into it.
As said above tho its just the extra features u'll have 2 weigh up if u really want/need them but sound quaility wise they will both b the same.

VY Blaupunkt head units are very average. I had a VY new and even with replacement speakers and an amp it sounded bad. If you are upgrading to a dual DIN touch screen you really need to look at Pioneer or Alpine in my opinion. My mate bought a cheapie Jensen and took it back for an exchange a week later for a Pioneer.

Go aftermarket mate. The steering wheel controlls are easy to put in with an aftermarket one, like sony/pioneer etc, they have plug adapters made from the main car loom, to the back of the headunit. There's a plug for steering wheel controls too, which you can get an add-on for too. I haven't done mine as i couldn't be bothered but I should have.
