Hi,
I have recently installed a Sony head unit into a VT using the stock front speakers and 300w 6x9's in the rear and 800w JVC Sub running off a 4 channel BOSS Amp, i understand that all this gear was pretty crud but the sound it produced was good.. Since then i have removed the Boss Amp and installed a 1200w Clarion 4 Channel + 400w Clarion Mono Block and also 3x boxed US Audio 8" Subs which are 600w each.
Now the problem, AMPS continuously cut out when the subs are connected and the rear speakers have crackling sound, my thoughts are there aint enough power to run the subs coming from the alternator??? Do i need a Capacitor (some people say they are a waste of time) or is it a better idea to install a bigger alternator??
lastly will just installing the alternator fix the issue? how many amps does it need to be and whats the best also cheapest one that will do??
Thanks!
Care to draw a diagram of your stereo setup/the way you wired it. In MSpaint. Obviously use different colors for wiring, etc. Doesn't have to be pro. Just so we can an idea of how you powered it, what gauge cabling, rca's, how the subs are wired, etc etc.
Also what ohm are the SUBS & What is the amp that you are running it from an how did you wire that?
Cheers
Mat

The issue with the amps cutting out is either you have produced the wrong independence at the amp or the speaker wires are shorting on a piece of metal somewhere along the track.
If we could get a decent list of your equipment (Brand, model number, 1/2/4 Ohms SC/DC etc.) then we will able to help you a lot better.
Also as above, please draw a diagram of how you have your subs and speakers connected to the amp, will help us trouble shoot.
Ok here is the diagram of how it is currently wired (no laughing im no expert) i will check out the details of the amps and subs in the morning
Just thought i would also mention that i noticed the boot light dimming tonight! but only when the sub box is connected.
Subs Specs
Frequency 35Hz-300Hz
Woofers 3 x 8" Woofers
Max Power 600 Watts per sub
Sensitivity 90dB
Impedance 4 ohm
how many ohms are your rear speakers ? and how many ohms are your subs ? some RMS ratings would be good too. same goes with the amps RMS and ohms ratings would help. sounds like you have the wrong impedence and something cant cope with the load.
three subs most likely aren't wired at 4ohm final load.
