    Default Radio Reception No Good

    Hey guys and girls,

The radio reception in my WH Statesman is really no good. Even in town, the stations are not coming through clearly and you mainly get that buzzing noise most of the time.

The current head unit is an Alpine IVA-W502EV, it also has a brand new genuine electric antenna, and when it was still playing up, I had an Antenna Booster installed (and that fixed it a bit), but then I had the GPS, Reverse Camera installed and it's gone back to how it was before.

I pulled some of the dash apart to make sure the switch wasn't accidentally turned off, but I can't find it anymore.

It started happening when I had the head unit installed, so I figured that because it was a DVD one it wouldn't pick them up as good (most of them seem to be that way). But come to think of it, I think it started doing it again when I had the windows re-tinted. I noticed that they disconnected that little black box thing off the rear window and ripped it off the window. Does anyone know what that was for? I thought maybe for a phone or something.

All the antenna cable looks like its plugged on firmly, so I don't know what else it could be. Maybe it's the head unit itself, but for the money I paid I would have thought it was going to be good.

If you need anymore information just let me know.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I've got the same thing with the same head unit in my VT Calais.

Oh ok, I must say that I am disappointed that Alpine didn't make it better. The Alpine head unit in my VS picks up Melbourne radio stations from Ballarat, and the one in my Statesman struggles to pick up Melbourne Stations in Melbourne haha.

make sure headunit is properly earthed.
make sure antenna is properly earthed.

the black box they have have disconnected is a diversity aerial. basically a booster.

The antenna and head unit is all earthed good. I just checked the head unit and I know the antenna is good because I fitted it myself not too long ago.

I'll see if I can find what the tint place done with that wire for the black box (in the roof lining somewhere), plug it back in and see if it makes a difference. If not then I have to go back to where the stereo was fitted to see where he relocated the antenna booster.

The original head unit I took out of my WK had two antenna inputs, one for the main one on the front guard, and one for the 'diversity' antenna mentioned above. So yeah, chances are the tinting joint did you a dis-service....

Yeah I thought so, I hope Holden still has them available, I am going to call them first thing Monday morning and order one if I can.
