    Default Crossover question

I am in the process of replacing my front speakers of my WK Stato, and just want to ask do I need to run the crossovers that came with my speakers (Morel Maximo 6) or will the standard setup in place be sufficient.

    Cheers Miki

You must run the cross over provided in the speaker set, cross overs are not universal and the stock holden setup has no external cross over, rather a resistor on the tweeter.

Cheers guys, had a feeling I needed to. Next question. which wire would I run to the crossovers, the ones from the speakers or the tweeters? Ordinarily I would split the speakers, but I have never replace a stock tweeter before.

Run the tweeter into tweeter, woofer into woofer and headunit / amplifier into amplifier.

Maybe I should reword it. Currently there are two separate lines. One line goes to the tweeters and the other goes to the woofers. My crossovers have one input, so I was trying to ask which one do I use for the input.

Okay, let's go back to the beginning here. This separate wiring you are referring to, is it wiring you have laid or is it stock wiring?

It sounds to me you have wired it up so you can go active (without a crossover), which for a novice user is just silly as you can damage the speaker set.

    What you want is this:

A pair of left and right +/- wires from your headunit or amplifier to the AMP +/- on your left and right crossovers.
You need +/- wires from the TWEETER output on the crossovers to the +/- terminals/wires on your tweeters.
And finally you need +/- wires from the WOOFER output on the crossovers to the +/- terminals/wires on your woofers.

It is all stock wiring. It has one set for the woofers and another to the tweeters. I haven't pulled the dash out and I am assuming that they are separate lines from the head unit.

If it were a standard setup i.e fresh setup for the tweeters, I would be fine but I haven't changed out a stock setup like this before. The wiring from the crossovers I understand (straight forward) it is just the input I am having trouble with.

Should I wire both the current woofer and tweeter wire to the crossover input then just split them as normal? Just not sure what the go for it is.

I believe they are the same wire, just split to the tweeters. So yes, just leave tweeter wire hanging.

Yes. Factory setups don't usually have a low pass on the woofer. Just allow the woofer to play up to its mechanical limits. Insulate the tweet wires do they don't touch each other or metal .

For your reference a capacitor in series and parallel with resistor form a first order high pass and low pass filters.

Are you running your splits straight off the headdeck?

Yeah straight off the headunit, that is until I put the crossovers in. Now I know my plan of attack, cheers guys, much appreciated.

I'm a bit confused? running off the headunit or not, you still need the crossovers...

simple question and i think all the over the top post's have just made it confusing?

    Just to clarify.

I am going to use the wires that currently come off the headunit to the stock speakers as the input to my crossovers, and then do a woofer/tweeter setup from there.
