hi, i was wondering if anyone knows if there will be wires behind the sterio to run rear speakers ? i wanna put some 6x9''s in boxes behind/under the seats while ive still got the standard head unit ?? i imagine there would be as its the same headunit as a sedan. anyone know a reason why i shouldnt ? or cant ?
I would say there would be wires behind the headunit just not connected. You would have to find out what the colour of the wires are though then no doubt patch a bit of wire. You know 6x9's by themselves running off the stock deck will do 3/10's of stuff all right?

ok yeah i wasnt sure how they would go, i just thought it might be bit better than nothing ? im a mechanic by trade so know the basics on electrical but never really got into sterios to much. just installed a few. so you recon dont bother untill i get an aftermarket headunit ?
I would look at upgrading to some decent speakers first then go from there.

$150 and there friggen loud! XS-GTX1621S : Speakers : Xplod™ Speakers / Subwoofers : Sony Australia
i have them on this amp tho
XM-GTX6040 : Xplod™ Amplifiers : Car & Marine Entertainment : Sony Australia
and u can hook a set of 6x9 to that amp to
CDX-GT300MP : Xplod™ CD Receivers : Car & Marine Entertainment : Sony Australia is my headnuit if it matters, im running my fronts and 6x9's on that amp
rear doors off head unit
sub off a second amp..
it gets the glass flexing, in a ute the fronts + 6/9 on a amp would be pretty loud!
No offence but please do not post if you don't know what your talking about. Sony speakers are shit and no audio person worth their salt would use them. Also it's always better spending the coin on a set of good splits in a ute then 2 sets of shit speakers. Also try reading the thread next time. He has a ute![]()

Why bother doing things twice. Save the coin do it once.

you have a point, but that setup in it atm is quite loud and cear.... and tbh it gets alot of peoples attention with the windows down..
Unfortunately sound is subjective. One persons good could be another persons horrible.

true..
and music style i guess..
well for $150 i still can't personly say no to the sony split's fir percit in dash and door..
Actually, I believe those Sony splits are fantastic for the money, (not my experience, someone elses who knows enough about audio to have a valid opinion) but it might be a different set I'm thinking of.... Although, they're the only splits listed on the website...
Rather than spending $250 on splits, you'd be better off spending $150 on splits, and $100 on sound deadening for the front doors.
Or better yet, deaden the front doors, and buy the CHEAPEST splits you can find, till you can afford something better![]()
@ OP before you pull the H/U out or anything just scroll through the settings by pushing the volume knob (Bass, Treble, Balance, Fader) and check your utes H/U does have the Fader control to fade the sound front or rear, because i know in my VZ ute, the H/U does not have Fader control nor does it have outputs for rear speakers, only the outputs for the tweeters and door speakers.
EDIT: if looking for splits, i run morel maximo 6 which was referred to me here by another forum member (sweefu. lol) and i run them off a 4ch jaycar response amp at 100rms per channel with the stock H/U
personally i think they sound great, they go loud but also have a really low midbass, alot of my mates ask me if i have a sub in the car when they hear it haha but for a ute, the one set of splits amped should be plenty
A fella over on MEA has the Sony splits in his girlfriends car (I think?), he's fairly knowledgeable and thinks their a decent set.
The headunit most likely has the rear channels disabled, and too be honest it's just a pain in the arse and a waste of coin worrying about getting them working.
Your best bet is to get a decent set of splits for the front, such as the Morel Maximo 6"s, Crescendo Opus 1s etc.

Thanks MAG00 I wasn't sure if they were disabled or had the option to be disabled.

well i had a look today and my rear fader isnt disabled, i can fade to the rear and obviously there is no sound. i think ill just upgrade the front speakers for now.
Has anyone got any photo's of their ute sound settup or another ute settup? Looking for some ideas especially regarding rear speakers. Regards...!
