Hey guys hows it going....?
I just wanted to grab peoples thoughts on sub placement in the boot...
I've just bought 2 Phoenix Gold Ti series subs 12" like featured at summernats
This year in the astra.
And wondered would I be best facing them toward the cabin or the rear of the.car?
This is for a vy

Towards the rear of the car.

If the subs are positioned behind the rear seats, then face them backwards.
If the subs are at the rear of the boot, face them forwards.
Not being smart, but why?
I thought bass was non-directional and travels "through" things, so it doesn't really matter which way they face.. ?
Face it on the inside of the car.

Are they in a ported or non ported box? I have 2 subs in a ported box and face them to the back of the car.. My old car I had them in a non ported box and had them facing the front of the car with the middle seat open and worked great..
Hey Mate,
yeah the 12's are in a Ported Tuned box, so yeah I'm thinking maybe face them towards the rear of the car rather than the intoward the cabin..
I guess it will be tried both ways and I just see what I feel sounds better?
cheers
Brendon..
Ps it's been ages since I've had a big audio setup and things have advanced so much since I first had it going!!
Pumped about having PHOENIX GOLD Gear back though!!!)))
Show some pics when you get it all installed if you can![]()
im pretty sure it was a genuine question, no need to be harsh, id like to know too, i don't have much knowledge on car audio.
i only have a single 12in sub and an alpine monoblock amp, but i have it behind the rear seats with the sub facing the front of the car, according to this thread that's the wrong way? what difference will it make if i turn it around?
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
Hey Mr Calais, Yeah mate, once all in and stuff I will upload some pics and get some more thoughts...
cheers
Brendon
Umm.. I've had several subs in various cars before mate.
What's with the attitude? Do you think you're some kind of legend because you have a sub?
You've had nothing constructive to add to this thread - why did YOU comment? At least I asked a genuine question which could generate some informative discussion..
I've fiddled around with placements and this is my thoughts (Not a professional, just a regular shitkicker)
Up = Vibrate everything cause it's directly into some hard panels, but if you've got big subs and actually care what it sounds like, you'll hate it.
Backwards = Sounds great, looks ####ing boss when you pop the trunk and WUBBITY WUBBITY WUBBLE WUB. Panties droppin'.
Forwards = Sounds okay, but bit of phase cancellation from rebounding off the seats. (Could be different if you only had one sub facing through that drop down seat, I don't know, i'm not bass god)
er, Also, Running 2 Alpine R 1242d's off a alpine 1.1000 in a big mother#### box.
Check my thread for all the details on my system.

Great reading - thanks Stone!
I was always of the opinion of the "other guy" in that article (that bass is omnidirectional and that because bass wavelengths are so long and car cabins are relatively short, it doesn't matter which way the subs face). Seems like THAT might be an urban myth (although it does seem to make sense).
I suppose the the best way would be to try it both ways and find out for yourself...
Thanks again guys, I'm pretty sure I will go with the Rear Facing Idea, Sound should be Awesome and these Subs look Awesome!!)
