i have been doing some research on installing splits and i read that there are factory tweeters in the vy, i seriously did not know this, would anyone be kind enough to tell me where they are?
thanks
Nic
Up on the dash you can see little grills each side.
wow that was quick, so is it the circle grills right at the front under the front windshield ?
That's it. Requires the removal of around 6 pieces of trim to get to.
Very easy, just screws here and there. The hardest part is trying to not break the clips.
MAG00, would you be kind enough to tell me which panels i need to take off to access the tweeters, i am going to atemp it 2morro
plawx?
thanks bud
Haven't you had tweeters running at all?
Open either front door, look at the panel just below the tweeter grill and you'll see the demister grill that goes into the door, in there is a screw pull that out and pull off that panel. then you'll see another screw under the tweeter grill pull that sucker out and then you'll have to pull on the actuall demister panel under the front windscreen.
It has like 3 clips that will release.
Left side: Glove box, side of dash air vent with and the top piece of plastic underneath the windshield.
Right side: Fuse area cover, side of dash air vent and the top piece of plastic underneath the windshield.
The side air vents have 3 screws each from memory, two on the front (would be covered by glove box and fuse panel) and one inside the vent.
The top pieces of plastic underneath the windshield are bitches to get out, easiest way would probably be to unscrew the end (which would normally be covered by the side of dash air vent) and gently pry from the middle with a small flathead screwdriver. The clips are solid, you'll need a fair bit of effort to get those pieces out.
Part 4 of this guide covers it: Full stereo install guide, VZ SV6
now i got some crossover questions :P
where is a good place to put them? i was thinking on the peice of wood i have behind the back seats next to the amps if it fits,
and there are no screw holes for them and i was thinking of using sikaflex and leave the plastic that is stuck on the bottom (packageing) and stick it to that so if i ever remove them for what ever reason the sikaflex wont get stuck to the crossover??
any suggestions ?
Up to you, if you don't plan on ever going active then it's just easier to have them where you save as much cable as possible. I used to have mine stuck to the door with double sided tape. Best place for them to minimize the cabling used is in the door or in the kick panels. Another option is adhesive velcro strips. As far as I know sikaflex is pretty robust, I would just settle for double sided tape or adhesive velcro strips.
the velcro strips i have melts in the heat, screwed me around with the dash mat![]()
and the double sided tape i have is crap (thin & also melts)
i think mum got the velcro from K-Mart and teh double sided tape from Woolworths..
if there on the door, wouldnt the wires be showing and that
I've put them in the sides of the dash... Behind and below that side air vent panel. Saves running two sets of wires the length of the car for both sides.
hmm, where can you get good double sided tape from?
umm na all good, im going to try the stuff i have already or il just go out and get some. (if i can find it)
