Hey guys, I am now ready to make a MDF Floor and Sides for my Audio install, Just wondering what size Mdf you guys have used in past installs and what works best for you?
And also Securing it? I dont really wanna be drilling holes in to panels of my body and stuff everywhere??
Regards
Brendon
I've found 3mm to be too flimsy so the next step up was 6mm and it worked fine.
Some people drill new holes, other people use existing holes and others glue wooden blocks to the floor so they can screw to those instead of the car. I've heard of liquid nails and sikaflex both being used to secure timber mounting blocks to the boot floor.
I've glued and screwed 12mm MDF to the existing fibre glass floor panel and the covered it in carpet. And vertical panels out of 6mm MDF and used self adhesive Velcro strips ( I found the 3M brand ones work best. The adhesive doesnt seem to melt in the heat ) and staple them to the MDF. They hold strong enough and don't fall off & no screw holes.
Thanks Mate, Will take that Advice on and get all my stuff done, Subs should be in be mid next week, then to finish the rest off
Cheers
Brendon
I like to use 6mm if nothing is going to be screwed to it otherwise 9mm, i dont screw the floor to anything, just make it tight enough the press fit and design it properly and it won't go anywhere
