Default Upcoming sound competions in or near Sydney?

I would just like to find out if anyone knows of any sound competitions that are scheduled for this year in or around Sydney. I want to get my car rated on SQL and SPL. I would definitely be in the lowest class (just shy of 1000rms).

Always great to see new competitors mate, for SQ there are a few aspects to consider which will get you free safety points. What sort of gear and wiring are you running?

That SQ comp sounds good wouldn't mind a trip down to Canberra.

    I'm running a $200 Sony H/U with 2 preouts

Alpine Type R splits in the front 110rms each (tweeters in the door).
Alpine Type S splits in the rear 80rms each (tweeters in the door).

    2 x Sound-stream SST 12/2's DVC 300rms in a ported Kicker box

    Fusion 4 channel amp CA-AM41200. 4 x 110rms @ 4ohm
    Pioneer Mono-block GM-D8500M 1 x 600rms @ 2ohm

4 Gauge wiring all round. 4 gauge power to the distro block. 4 gauge power to both amps. 2 x 8 gauge ground in a 4 gauge lug for both the amps.

All of my colours are messed up because whenever I bought power wiring they never had the right colours.

How much does it cost to enter to SQ comp at Canberra?

it is $20 if you enter Novice class, however this class is aimed purely as an introduction to SQ competitions. You will get to sit in the car with the judge who will go over everything with you and may even provide some tips on how to improve the system. Note however that novice is not a competition class, so there is no leader board or trophies, just purely designed to get some feedback and a taste of MEASQ.

If you want to compete for trophies and accrue points towards a state championship then you will need to enter Intermediate class.
It is $35 if you enter Intermediate class, prior to entering it is useful to get a copy of the rules and score sheet from here http://www.mobileelectronics.com.au/...es_guidelines/
as sweefu alluded to, pay close attention to the safety points, there are some very easy points to gain e.g. fire extinguisher.

the other benefit of attending a comp is that most competitors are more than happy to let you have a listen to their system so it is a great opportunity to listen to some really good sounding cars, all you need to do is ask

just a heads up, SQ events really aren't a spectator sport, and involve standing around, doing very little, while someone goes around to every car, giving it a score based on safety points, and how it sounds...

Then you'll get criticised and abused on the MEA forum for mounting PVC pipe to your front doors using duct tape

it may not be much of a spectator sport agreed, but it is however a great chance to get some feedback and advice on your system and the opportunity to listen to some great sounding cars. also a good way to socialise with people with similar interests. I have made many new friends through meeting people at competitions.

it is what you make it i guess.

Yeah, don't expect an exciting or even mildly entertaining day unless you go up and talk to people. I went and watched one and it sucked. Everyone was in their little groups and my car had no system in it at the time to even play with. It was much more fun when it's a SQ & SPL comp.
