This is a poorly drawn image of how i believe i would wire everything up.
how correct/incorrect is it? what can i do to improve it? basically just looking for advice.
Do the wires to the speakers have to be changed, or can the original ones be used?
That looks right to me. You can just tap into the original speaker wires however it is better to run new wires into each door. I just tapped into the existing wires and haven't had a problem yet.
don't forget a fuse!
+1 for a fuse. Make sure it's with 45cm of the batteryif you are under 1000rms then a 60amp fuse should be ok.
A good place to ground the amps is the rear seat belt bolt. Remove the bolt and give it a good sanding. Use Ring terminals for the ground. If you can't find the right size you will have to either cut it or drill it out. Fusion have really good terminals they are so thick you can't crimp them with pliers, you will need to use a vice.
I would get some cross overs and run another RCA cord to you four channel amp. I'v heard those high power input things aren't very good.

Thanks for all the advice guys!
I think He means RCA Spliters the 'Y' style ones, like this. They are perfectly fine to use.

that post is pretty much nonsense, thats why.
However, if your headunit only has one set of RCA outputs, its worth while getting something better with two, or three sets... unless thats what you already have, in which case you diagram is misleading, as you've labelled the leads going from the headunit to the amp as speaker wires![]()
Try this Diagram. It helped me on my install.![]()
Here i've edited the above diagram, Assuming your headunit only has 2 sets of patch cables. You dont need a capacitor. You just need big enough power wire from the battery. If your under 1000rms total than 4gauge will be adequate and your lights shouldn't dim when you crank it.
I've take out my capacitor and it has made no difference whatsoever. Just doesn't look as cool in the boot anymorelol

I figured he only has one set of RCA out on his head unit or he would be using them. And my post made perfect sense, juzzyx understood what i was talking about.
Provided your HU does not have more than one RCA out, Ckeck you amps if they have outs. Give some more details on your system, what your amps are etc.

i have a
jvc KS-AX3104 amp
Pioneer GM-2200 amp
pioneer deh-7250sd Head unit
i cannot recall the sub, and there pretty average speakers.
i think the GM-2200 came with a capacitor. should i just get rid of it?
My search showed your HU has three RCA outs, buy another RCA cord and run it to your 4channel amp. read the RCA out carefully. I had a sony HU with two RCA outs. one was didicated for a sub and sound bad when I ran speakers off it.
PS. I had to get RCA cords for my VS with a 90degree tip, otherwise it wouldnt fit behind the HU.

Well actually we are all wrong, they call the ones my mate bought a "lead adapter". So drop it and dont start the stupid "its call a" arguement. pretty much everything automotive has half a dozen different names. I call "splitters" crossovers because my mate gave me some and referred to them as crossovers, deal with it.
And quit talking to me like Im stupid AmmoJammo. So what if I made a mistake, you dont have to be such an arrogant prick about it.

lol,
just because your mate calls something by the wrong name (btw, you already said it was supercheap calling them "crossovers", good work changing your story) doesn't mean its the right thing to call it!
yes, some car parts have different terms to refer to them... but they're still CORRECT terms!
What the hell is wrong with you? Stop being such a child and let it go. I accepted they are called splitters what more do you want from me?
Oh no you foiled my big plan to hide my stupidity, what will I do. Well done detective!(btw, you already said it was supercheap calling them "crossovers", good work changing your story)
I wasnt lying, I legitamittly thought they were called crossovers. Wow a human being forgot what the packaging on some RCA splitters his mate bought three months ago? man i wish I could store infomation in my head like a computer like you can sir!!
Now Im going to be serious.
I understand from what I have observed you do know what you are talking about with car audio gear, But instead of helping the OP with the original question you decided to focus your attention on proving to me what a insignificant RCA splitter is called. Thats a shame, why dont you put your knowlege to good use instead of using it to prove your superior to anyone that makes a minor mistake. I took a dig at you because you coldly shut me down, what made it worse was the fact someone had already corrected me and it should have been left at that. I simple "yeh man they are called splitters" would has sufficed. Thats where my aggression stemmed from, and for that I apologise.

Jonah... People who've been on this forum for a while helping people by giving out correct information and using the correct terms have gradually been getting less tolerant of people coming on here and giving out incorrect information. Don't take it personally, just accept you mistakenly used the wrong term and move on![]()
