hi everyone, i am planning on buying an alpine 12" type are SWR-1223D (Alpine Electronics of Australia) and i havnt chosen an amp as yet because i would like to know if it would be best to wire it at 1 or 4 ohm?
thanks
/In before Wraith: Search and you will find.
Ughhh, Alpine subs. Whatever, anything will be fine.
Depends on the amp really. You need an amp that can put out 600rms @ 4ohms or an amp that is 1ohm stable that can put out at least 600rms @ 1ohm.
For that kind of money I wouldn't be buying Alpine subs. Mag00 should be able to recommend a good sub for that price.
If you really want Alpine then get 2 x SWR-1243D (600rms each DVC) and run them in parallel at 1ohm on an Option Audio OAK1200 which puts out 1200rms @ 1ohm
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
Yea but wouldn't you want the most out of your sub? if the sub specs say it can handle 600rms would you want to give it that much?
The OAK1200 cost $350 from AutoBarn bargained from $400. You could wire the one Type R (SWR-1223D) sub in parallel for a 1ohm load and just have the gain turned down I guess.
All depends on what he's after.
@OP: Are you after knee slappin' bass or do you want accurate bass?
Hehehe
You would want more if possible. Also known as headroom, it's ideal to have an amplifier that can produce a higher RMS value than the sub requires. This way it is very hard to clip the amped signal, which can lead to the failure of the sub and the amp. To ensure that the subwoofer does not receive too much power, simply adjust the gains correctly and back off the volume when you hear it distorting.
well i would like accurate bass. i have read more that says it would be better to run it at 4ohm
Sound quality subs at the ~$400 mark:
Boston Acoustics G5
JL Audio 12W6V2
Morel Ultimo SC 12
Polk Audio SR12
Personally, I wouldn't touch Alpine with a ten-foot pole. You pay for the badge, not for the overall product.
I figured because a lot of these people buy from the US I would throw it in there due to the fact you can buy one's like this here.
Provided you have no issue with buying from overseas, it's a great buy, I love mine![]()
Eh, I have already said over there how I can understand why people do it, the price margin on a lot of things is outrageous.
I wouldn't even buy a JL Audio sub... why not? because then I'd be risking killing an $800 woofer![]()
And I wouldn't recommend one to you because I am under the impression that you prefer SPL over SQ![]()
