To much sound hitting your ears from different angles at different times, muddles it up.

You want your sound coming from in front of you. You don't listen to a band with your back to them, so why would you want speakers behind you. This isn't a surround sound experience.

One GREAT set of splits up from and one GREAT sub in the boot will win nearly every time.

Go to a MEASQ comp and find winners that are using back and parcel tray speakers.

do you have rear passengers often ? because then you may need rear fill, i guess you could always set the fader so the rear speakers are silent when there are no rear passengers but don't go spending much for rear speakers

agreed, one great set of splits up front and a single sub is all that is needed. even if you have passengers they can still hear the speakers in the front. if passengers complain offer them that they are welcome to buy you rear speakers

for $5k for an SQ system (using car audio drivers) i would personally spend it in the following way

Pioneer P80RS HU ~$800 i think, if you can find one (new model coming out this year)
Seas Lotus Reference Component Set $1700 RRP
    Morel Ultimo 12 $898 RRP
    Arc Audio KS300.4 $699 RRP
    Arc Audio KS1000.1 $999 RRP
that comes to $5096 retail, street price should be a a bit cheaper. then add up to $2k for install (including wiring, deadening, custom built box, etc)

To go a bit cheaper I would swap the Seas splits with a pair of Crescendo Opus 7B ($559 RRP) which saves $1200 to put towards the install.
you could also save money on the amps by buying the Clarion XH5410 and XH7110 ($479 and $499 respectively) which are pretty much the same amps as the Arc, just a different badge and heatsink.

do not skimp on install either, as this is where the most gains can be had in how well a system will sound

and i can guarantee that kind of system will put a massive smile on your face

Arc Audio is popular on MEA again? I thought the company sold a few years back and went down hill in quality or has a bandwagon got on them regardless of the quality?

I'd recommend you get rears speakers and have them faded out. I took the MEA advice years ago and although I was happy with just fronts and sub/s, my passengers always complained about the music sounding muffled from the rear seats and after getting a new car with 4 stock standard speakers, I prefer to have some rears to immerse you in the music a little more. Not everyone needs perfect stage width and height, some people just want crisp clear and loud music

no bandwagon, they are just a good amp for a reasonable price, in fact i dont even know if there is a current amp brand on the MEA bandwagon atm, well maybe Tru Tech but they are out of budget :P

I thought Tru Tech went out of fashion a few years back too. So hard to keep up with the MEA trends.

ok ive decided on front splits and speakers in the rear (to keep everyone happy) and a sub in the boot

    Arc Audio KS300.4 4 channel 700w amp $390
    Arc Audio KS1000.1 amp 1000w amp $700
    AVH P2300DVD poineer headunit $350
    Morel ovation 6" pro speakers x4 140wrms $1037
    Morel Ultimo 12" 2ohm 1000wrms subwoofer $803

and what ever it takes to install i dont really care and everyday i get $480 closer to it

I don't see why you want so many front speakers. Doubling the amount of speakers adds 3db to the sound pressure level. 3db is borderline impossible to distinguish. It is a much smarter option to buy a really good set of front speakers.

Do you work in the mines or something?

Do you regularly have rear passengers? It's highly unrecommended to spend that much on the rear speakers. Having splits also makes it hard to install in the rear.

nearly everytime i drive it a couple of mates are in the car.
so would i be better off with just splits in the front and just something cheap in the rear cause i dont like the idea of nothing in the back
