so the head unit i installed not long ago, Sony XAV-72BT has a LPF set to 100hz by default. it also had a HPF which is off, im just not sure what to put them to, or should i leave them default? also, i have noticed the sub doesnt play like it was before, i think because the EQ is off, that is all flat, sounds like a flat response (if you get what i mean)
thanks
You can use the LPF on the headunit or on your amplifier. The settings will be different now that you have changed units, if you were using any EQ before you will have to do that again on the new headunit.

there was no EQ on the old one, umm it is a EQ7, so there are "Xplod" "Edge" "Cruise" "Space" "Gravity" & "Custom" but i don't know what they are hehe, i guess il have to lisen to how each of them sound and then chose which one sounds the best for me
Use the custom, you will probably be able to just adjust low-mid-high

so referring to this manual, the LPF is the cut off frequency for the subwoofer & the HPF is for the speakers, there is no way to turn the LPF off so i guess i will leave it @ 80hz? like on the amp
Are those the frequencies you can adjust?

Well yeah, your sub will be taking care of 63hz if you wan't to boost it up, though I can't imagine why considering your setup.

umm, the rca from mono amp is plugged into the output on the 4 channel amp, would this have anything to do with the sub not producing enough like it was when connected to old h/u? i was thinking maybe the sub needs to be connected into the "sub output" directly to the h/u?
my friend also told me, changing from Eonon H/U into a pioneer one, his high freuencies got limited by the default head unit settings? so maybe im in the same situation?
You need your mono amplifier RCA's plugged into the SUB output on the headunit, and make sure the SUB output on the headunit is switched on.

Good stuff mate, but fix up those RCA cables asap.

Since your subwoofer amplifier is running from the 4 channel amp output, the LPF in the head unit, which is for the sub output on the head unit, will be doing nothing for the sub. Make sure the LPF is set to 80-100Hz on the subwoofer amp.
Once you have your RCAs connected correctly then you can have the LPF in the head unit set to 80-100Hz and the HPF in the head unit set to 80-100Hz.
all connected now yay, gonna test out 2morro.
thanks
ok so, it was the eq giving a flat bass response because I put it on "xplod" and now it plays like it should can even see some front window flex now hehe so I'm happy with everything now, and I tuned amp to give 1100rms at volume 35/50 and when I turn it up to 38/39 it goes even louder but I don't know it is clipping or not, I lifted the boot up to hear it and it sounds completely normal, friend told me it will clip so idk. and sorry if it's hard to read, I'm typing on my phone so if you cant understand il type it on pc for ya, thanks
What do you mean 'give 1100rms at 35/50'? you can't change the power the amp produces. What is your gain set on?
clipping is what happens when you overdrive an amplifier (usually by turning the gain up too high) the powersupply runs out of juice and instead of outputting a clean sinewave like the one on the top
it cuts the tip of the wave off when it reaches maximum power like in the bottom pic, this not only sounds bad but can damage your speakers as instead of smoothly moving in and out along the sine wave they stop moving at each end of the sine wave and this in turn over heats the voice coils
how to stop it? by correctly setting your gains, and using good quality music, some bad quality recordings or low bit MP3s are already clipped before the leave the head unit so no amount of setting gains will stop the signal from being clipped

no. what i mean, i tuned it like this> How To | Set Amplifier Gains With A Basic Multimeter | Car Audio Tutorial - YouTube my friend told me not to go past volume 35 because thats how i tuned it but it goes louder but i dont want it to wreck the sub so i don't really know if its getting clipped or not, so i was turning the volume up for quick bursts for like sound comps and that.
sorry i was writing it on my phone and couldnt explain it properly witha vid to show you what i mean
so back to the original question, do you think i will harm the woofer if i continue to play at volumes 38/39? it feels much nicer to play it louder than 35 but aint worth it if its not good for it.
or i should just do it for quick bursts?

what amp is it?
I've always found a fair bit of clipping to sound louder, and even meter louder, but it all depends if the subs will take it or not.
