    Hi Harro_vt, welcome.

Don't worry about starting with a question. I was the same, and probably most here.

I have installed 6x9s in my VTII, as well as a head unit and front splits.

Not sure why you want to disconnect the original rear speakers in the door. Do you plan to run wires from inside the door to the rear shelf? Are you keeping the stock head unit?

I ran new wires from the shelf to the head unit. It's pretty straight forward.

As for getting the door skins off, you need to pull the red insert out of the door lock. There is a thread here somewhere with some pics. Apparently you can gently ease them out without damaging them too much although I had no luck on the fronts, but was able to replace the speakers without taking the trim off in the end. Otherwise just jam a screwdriver through the middle of them and buy some new ones. If you have manual windows you will need to pull the winder off and of course any screws around the edge of the trim.

You need to prise the oval plastic strip and then underneath is some black screws that require a Torx Bit to remove.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!

There is oval shaped metal plates spot welded into the parcel shelf, you just knock them out.

Sorry guys i have the same problem.. So what ur saying is that from the stock H/unit you could have all six speakers running from it? The front door, rear door and parcel shelf?

You can...but you shouldn't. Doing so will load down the HUs internal amplifiers pushing twice as much power out of it which will eventualy cause damage to the HU and speakers with all the distortion coming out of them.

    Default fitting 6 x 9 's in vt

When fitting the speaker should i screw down through the speaker into the metal shelf? Or is it easier to go up through the bottom? Also is there a spacer ring of some sort that should go between the two surfaces to stop vibrations?

Whenever I install 6x9's in a vt or vx, I attach the speaker to the metal in the shelf using self drilling screws or you can use wood screws (lol....trade secret)..... As for the grille on top depending on the model of car but most vt's and vx's didnt come factory with any speakers therefore you need to purchase the aftermarket speaker grilles they are in the same shape as the indent in the shelf, any car audio place will sell these....
If you need anymore help feel free to ask.....

    cheers

The speaker screw holes should be in the same location, so remove speaker wires, undo screws, remove 6x9, put new 6x9 in, do up screws, connect speaker wires.... DONE.
