Default What Type Of Sub Do I Go For

Hi Guys. I have 600.1 monoblock kicker amp and I want to put two alpine type R subs in my car. The question is what type of type R's... I mean do I want DVC 2 ohm, DVC 4 ohm etc. Sorry is this sounds stupid but I dont know much about it. Also can anyone give me an opinion as to whether I should go 10" subs or 12", I heard 10's have better sound quality which is what im aiming for. Thanks

I am not familiar with that amp. What sort of loads can it take? There should be a wiring diagram that came with the amp showing the different combinations you can use. See if it recommends 4ohm DVC or 2ohm DVC.

if it can handle 2 ohm loads I’d go for 2ohm DVC. if it only likes 4ohm loads then 4ohm DVC. connect one coil from each sub in series and then overall in parallel. I think you can do that. I’m sure someone will correct me if you can’t.

as for 10s having better SQ than 12s thats crap. the person who said that was playing with them selves. its like saying a 6 inch has better sq than a 8 inch. crap.

Garfa...well....actually....about that..... The larger the cone area the more mass the surround has to control. But, the main area is the quality of the driver itself.

A 8"Pioneer will have better SQ then a 6" Boss

You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!

Yep, you're correct there Deph - for each driver you series the 2 ohm coils (which will make 4 ohms), then the two drivers in parallel to get you back to 2 ohms total.

yeah alredy thought about that. but the loss in SQ would be so miniscule from a 2 inch larger cone it would be insignificant compaired to other factors affecting SQ.

Being a muso (bass player) ive found 10 inch speakers have great quality and all round punch, 15's are great for massive low end and throw, where as 12's (which are less used for bass guitar and more for guitar) tend to be selected for their midrange qualites. Thats my opinion with bass guitar cabinets, hope it means something to car stereo people.

As a note i use 4x10s and a 1x15 set up on stage
Yeh i know my VB is weak
