Hey guys,
I've just removed the Eurovox stock from my car, and have a new single-din LCD touchscreen Pioneer deck. I've done a few installs before, but this has me baffled!
How/what do I do to install this thing?! The bracket for the new deck doesn't fit, and the mounting braces for the Eurovox operate on the centre peice - not the top or bottom. And there are no real mounting holes at all!
ALSO, I can get the face of the dash off - but how do you remove the huge peice that covers the sides of the deck mounting. Even with the dash off, heater off, and several milltion screws removed - I can't remove this peice to access the sides of the black cage where the deck will be going into.
Need all the help I can get!
Mike
hey, i just used a friction fit with my pioneer head unit. it's a bit of a tight fit but you can do it. mine isn't actually screwed in.
Yeah... not for a $1500 deck though. I want it firm.
The mounting bracket doesn't fit, but the actual head-unit is pretty loose (not snug enough to just walk away from)
Obviously people have installed head-units in VX's - everyone would face the same problem! There just isn't any mounting holes!!!!
It's driving me nuts. :b:
Hey, i can relate.
I am looking to mount a mp3 pioneer into my vt berlina, will probably have the same issues.
I did hear about using some backstrap down both sides of the unit and it screws into the existing cage below the unit but i'm yet to try as i'm still waiting for my player to arrive, if anyone can comfirm this it would be great.
$1500, what deck did you buy?Originally Posted by mriksman
I have a DEH-P9650. I got it from ebay for about $750. last year it retailed for $1800 but this year I have seen JB hifi selling it for about $1000.
He probably got a AVH-P5750DVD, if it's new. The DEH-P9650MP's RRP has dropped to $1,199 now.
There is two main ways to mount a head unit in the VT/VX...
1. Slightly bend the black mounting section out at the sides so that the Pioneer cradle (bracket thing) will slide in... It will still be VERY firm but it needs to be to hold the unit in place.
The way I prefer, but alot more time consuming.
2. Dismantle the dash, drill holes in black mounting section of car, screw head unit in through sides of stock mounting section. It takes a while to pull the dash apart, then to work out how deep and at what height the holes need to be, but it's more secure. The black section has ridges too, these lined up where the screws needed to be and made the gap to large for the Pioneer screws supplied, so the ridges needed to be flattened.

Or you could just purchase the kit.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
Thanks for all the info.
I lost the little screws that attach the unit to the mounting bracket, so that was out.
What I did was, make a little rectangular plate for both sides, and mounted it on. I used the counter-drop screws, and so had to make 'dips' in the metal using a big drill peice to flush mount the screws.
I bashed (slightly) the side of the metal void in the VX so it would slide in. I emphasise slight bashing - not much was needed.
Then after 4 drill peices, I managed holes in the side using those special types of drills that can do tricky places. A couple of self tapers and she is solid as in there.
Sweet as.
The pocket I will use velcro to attach at the back. Then I can pop it out when I need to, and will remain quite firm.
It's a AVH-P5750DVD. Any feedback on what they are like?
Audio Xtra and it basically replaced the frame.

bump.
just bought a new cd player for my vx today, single din. How the hell do you get the new cage/bracket in? it goes in but it bends it and doesnt sit flush.
do you have to remove the cage from the stock cd player? so fustrating haha.
thanks
I just used a right angled drill screwd a strip of 1mm bracket stripp into the side of the head unit and then used the rightangled drill to put self tappers throught the side cost about 30 for bracket and drill part but did the job i have not seen it move then put a din pocket in.
dammit. i though it was going to be easier than this! haha
Lovin' the 6 year old bump~
yeah. 6 years later. people still having the same problems haha
If you're still having this problem i may be able to help. I had trouble mounting mine, My head unit came with a strip of metal. Cut that so one of the holes lines up to a screw hole at the front of the unit. Bend that around to the front and behind the dash facia there are 2 screws. Screw the other end in there. Mine was a double din, should still work for a single tho.
Damn it!!!! Just read the whole thing and then realized its over 6 mother f&$@!ing years old! Nice dig.
Old post but for anyone else's reference... I used a hammer and some gentle persuasion to make the stock cradle a little wider. The aftermarket cradle is still tight but not deformed so that the head unit can't do in straight.
This was much easier than my original install where I screwed the head unit in from the sides!
