im planning, as the title says, to install my pioneer 7750 into the pocket under the stock HU:
i realise i will have to cut some of the plastic etc. but do i need to make any mounts for it?
anyone got any pics or advice:
thanks

EDIT: the reason i want it down the bottom is i have ordered a 7" indash screen that i want above the deck

i think the idea was to lop to top off the pocket and trim along the bottom edges [remove the "rear"] this will allow a three way support which you can either drill to mount screws or just puch the head unit in.
only reccomendation i can make is run the cables up the arse of the stock head unit, this will let you make a loopish set so if you need to yank the unit out again you have some play in the cables to allow you to drag a unit out and it'd still be connected.
with my head unit which i just put in the normal top slot i spliced the boxed harness into a loosewire->holden harness plug [ the spare adpator thingy was a third party supacheap auto job] after splicing the wires and soldering, then insulating i have a nice adaptor cable so if for any reason i want the old head unit back in i still have the original cable plug there. nice and handy![]()
attn Über geeks, i play Second life. Patrio Graysmark.
Whats wrong with removing the stock headunit may I ask?
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
i have ordered a screen. and i will have to put one of the 2 in the bottom. would prefer the HU so i can still use it when the screen is flipped upOriginally Posted by PerceptionTwin
ahhh I see. When I replied to that your edit wasn't in there! My advice is wait until you have the screen and install all in one hit so your wiring job will be much easier.

yeah thats prolly the best idea..
still wondering what is the best method to get the HU in there in the first place? just cut away the back of the pocket till it fits.? and screw in from the side?
and pics of a similat install would be swell.![]()
Basically the install is simple. Hack the back of the pocket away all but 1.5" from the front of it. You may need to do some slicing in the corners but this will ensure a tight fit into the remainder of the pocket. You can then put the screws in through the plastic and into the headunits predrilled holes.
If you do a search for VR-VS DVD players you will find a couple of guys that have done it and have included pics and a step by step.
