I know you can get these adaptor plugs for about $15-$20 or so that fit right into into the stock plug (that fits into the stock head unit) and adapts it to fit a newer head unit, which saves soldering it plus easily allows me to put the stock head unit in if I want to sell the car. However I dont know what this plug is called and where I can get one, it sounds extremely useful, as I dont want to be sitting there with a wiring diagram and soldering every single wire, not to mention destroying the stock plug.
Anyone know where to look and what they are called exactly? Im heading to jb hifi on friday to buy a pioneer deh-p5750mp, so maybe they will have one?
This is for a vr berlina.
Thanks
Head unit adapter plug's can be obtained from Autobarn stores (actually i bought one last week for $25) I was done in 30mins.(i had to install a stacker too)They do have a very large range, mine was a VT one to Sony yours will be VR to Pioneer...JB also selling steering wheel controls(for Commodores) for pioneer units(just like the factory ones) for $180.Ask'em when u get there.Originally Posted by Famine

Do you have a part number for the Commodore/Pioneer product?
i tried to get a new plug and wires for a stereo that came out of a mates car. the installer had cut them right off near the plug. Went to JB and the guy said they don't sell em cos that would make it too easy for people to flog em?
any truth to it?
ECOTEC KICKED IN yO!!!!!!
i got mine from autobarn:
I had to get two pieces; VN-->ISO and ISO-->Pioneer. The guy gave me a discount, so i only paid $20 for them... they're made by aerpro - google it, and you can get your part numbers
vh -holden. Thats a load of bullshit. They do make them. Goto an authorised repairists of your headunit and get them to order the wiring loom.
I ordered hundreds for people. Sure, they might ask you a few simple questions but just answer them truthfully and there wont' be a problem. Also, if you have the one that has been cut to short then takw that in as well.
I had on customer tell me about his headunit (P-9650) He wrapped his VR around a tree and it burst into flames. Since the headunit wasn't bolted into place properly he grabbed that and his CD case out of car forgetting his mobile phone to call the firebrigade.
At least he saved the headunit though![]()
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
I bought one, and found out that the previous owners had already cut off the stock plug, lucky me. Soldering is fun though :P
Thanks for that. JB Hifi have a limited range of usefull little things. We ended up using crimp connectors on it, but i'm not sure if they are going to hold up to it as they are close to the plug and are caught between the back of the unit and the car.

Visiting supacheap I got a hold of a connecter that plugged into the normal stock loom and went into a bunch of loose wires, though when I soldered that to the wires of the connecter that came with my head unit [ To make a harness ] I got the rear speakers the wrong way aroundbut other than that it works great.
So basicly some solder and electrical tape later I retained my stock loom connecter and also have a tidy cable that adapts into my head unit. Lovin' it.
attn Über geeks, i play Second life. Patrio Graysmark.
are there any disadvantages (loss in sound quality?) in using one of these adapters as opposed to wiring up a new connection? they sound like a real good idea, just sound too good to be true, i cant be bothered with a new loom lol
You wont notice any difference at all. But if you solder it on, in theory you have a better connection.
If you can find the correct harness go for it, but if not, just solder it. I searched for one, but couldnt find the right one anyway.
