    Default Mp3 player thinks its a tape deck

    i having a big enoing problem,

    my mp3 play is starting to fast forward like the sound a tape makes rewinding or fastforwarding, would this just mean that my mp3 playa is Fd or could this be caused by someother fault,
    i have tryd burning new mp3 cds in differant ways and with differant brand cds but 2 no success. it works fine with normal cd formats but with mp3 discs its starts making the nosie.

    it is a VDO CD 139 MP3 (could the brand VDO be the problem)

    Theres not much to go wrong with MP3, but try playing the tracks on a computer.

    Some possible causes:

    * Scratched CD
    * Bad MP3's (check this by playing on computer)
    * Brand of CD incompatible with player
    * Faulty player

    At any rate, VDO is the cheapest of the cheap brands, so I wouldn't expect much. You should however have (or have had) a warranty. If it's expired, it's just bad luck I'm afraid.

    With audio gear you tend to get what you pay for to a degree, so it pays to invest in reputable brands.

    When you burn the disks, burn them slow. I'd suggest nothing faster than 16x. Sure it takes a bit longer, but the contrast between the binary states that your creating on the disks is much higher than if you pumped it out at 40x. The laser used in car CD players is usually fairly weak in comparison to your typical CD-ROM drive.

    Also, make sure that the MP3's are encoded using a constant bitrate (160-192kbps) instead of a variable bit rate. Some 'budget' (read CHEAP) mp3 players can not properly decode anything with a variable bit rate and just pick the 'average' or the starting bit rate and decode the entire track at that speed. Which can lead to your problem.

    your laser could be out alignment or simply dirty. You will notice this on MP3s first.

    VDO is not a shit brand despite what others say. They aren't the greatest. But neither is Alpine, Pioneer and the ilk.

    Actually, that wasn't a good idea. The better earth would've been to connect it straigght to body of the car as close as possible to the headunit.

    a trick that worked for me.
    try getting a better program like the new nero and burn just one track and make sure you are burining it as an "mp3" cd. Try it in your car.
    if that fails, its the system, if it works try burning slower as stated before and make sure its as an mp3 cd
    By burning as an mp3 you have different coding which makes it better for cheaper units to read.

    the earthing at the battery works well but if its pritty dodgy and bad i betta not,

    as 4 burning i am using nero 7.1 platnum and burn at slowest speed posible, it works 4 a while then it just craps it self and skips, i will record it so u can hear it,
    in my instructon manual 4 the headunit it says burn as a data disc, so i do could this be causing it? if i burn in mp3 disc mode on nero the id name tags stuff up, they just freze at the first feew leeters and add a numba on the end
    eg:in data burn mode: 2 pac - changes
    in mp3 burn mode: 2pac1
    the number changes on the end for the next song if by same artist

    Hmmm listened to the recording. Are you burning on an CDRW disc? or a CDR?
    I have a Sony head unit and it's not very happy with some CDRW discs at all. It does a similar thing. The VBR thing might be causing it also. It really does sound like the mp3 decoder is getting shafted somehow.

    I use a program called Exact Audio Copy in conjunction with LAME to rip or convert mp3's to different bitrates.

    Add me to msn ben_ponting at hotmail dot com and I'll guide you through the process if need be.

    hey man, i have used them programs before, i didnt have a problem with them. What im using right now is also a good mix... (well, if you own a fairly new Creative Sound card)

    i own a Creative Soundblaster Live! 5.1 channel sound card, that came with a program (called Wave Studio) that lets me re-rip any song to any bitrate between 8kbps 11025Hz Mono to 320kbps 44100Hz Stereo... i use that for mp3's i already have or if i have a cd i just use Windows Media Player 10 to rip the songs as 192kbps MP3.

    i use Alcohol 120% to burn all my stuff... i have never once had a problem with mp3's on car stereos (or any stereo actually) using these programs

    Not that it will help your case but it's good practice to not resample MP3 files. MP3 is a lossy compression format, if you resample it you lose even more of the sound data hence the sound quality really drops.

    If you're listening to it on a good set of speakers, you shouldn't be ripping at anything less than 192kbps, if they are dodgy speakers (like in my car at the moment) 160 is okay. 128kbps is really only useful for dialogue (recording lectures and shit) anything lower is just a waste of time.

    Also, if you have the CD and the Creative sound card, I'd recommend using Creative Media Source to rip with. Gives you slightly more control over the quality of the file.

    Then again, I'm a bit of an audiophile, so I'm more worried about quality than anything else.
