Hello all,
i cleared my history awhile ago and forgot about this site until a little while ago when i was in an audio shop and this guy was trying to con me into buying some 7X10's for some reason he thought they were the bees knees.
I hate 7X10's as it happens and i remembered how good the audio advice was on this site so here i am again (trunkrattler in particular).
Ok, Firstly im a little confused by all the different speakers available:
- Splits
- Component speakers
- 2 way, 3 way, 4 way etc etc...
Im thinking at the moment that i will buy some boston accoustics PRO 60 model 6 1/2 splits (the ones with seperate crossovers and seperable tweeters etc).
Im also thinking about buy the top of the range pioneer speakers that seem to be pretty cheap: Pioneer TS-C160R, they are also 6" splits.
Is it wise for me to buy two sets of splits? I'm thinking the pioneer 6inches in the front and the bostons in the rear powered by a 4*75wrms amp. I dont know if your supposed to have 2 sets of splits in a car, previously ive just had basic 6X9's in the rear and little 5inche 2 ways in the front.
How would i have to install the tweeters for both speakers?
For bass i already have a 12" sub and a 500wrms cadence Z8000 ultradrive amp. i also have good wiring and 200a stinger pro fuse etc.
What speakers does everyone recommend for front and rear? Im only buying the bostons because i have an oppurtunity to buy some cheap ones (they usually retail for about 1100 im getting them for approx 400 used from a friend, i can get the pioneer splits for about 260-300.
As usual advice/help is appreciated and thanks in advance.
P.S im sorry to say i no longer drive the faithful commo, i now drive an rx7.
I forgot to mention that im thinking of buying an active crossover to control it all: JVC KS-N60:
JVC KS-N60
Is this wise? I will be getting this all professionally installed and tuned btw, i m not screwing around with it myself.
I would just get the Bostons for the front and have the sub... The Pros go well enough by themselves without needing rear speakers.
Splits is just slang for component speakers.
will you be having seperate amps to drive the woofers and tweeters?
no huge need to with components for the rear. coxials should be fine. i prefer rear fill. its really just a personal taste thing. try your system faded to the front and then try a 60/40 split to the fronts and decide which you like better. then get rears if you feel the rear fill will help.
the whole 2way and 3 ways thing just mean the number of speakers. a 3 way coaxil speaker just means 3 differnt speakers sharing a common axis. and a 3 way component system means 3 seperate speaker that can be mounted seperately.
generall 3 way component system have more trebal than their 2 way equivilents.
Hey Stubby, long time no see. (I'm trunkrattler under a new name)
I wouldn't bother with the active crossover.
Dude, get those Bostons upfront! Thats where your soundstage is! Plus get them amped up.
If you still want speakers in the rear, just go for a pair of two way or three way. You won't need components/splits. Save yourself a few bob eh?
Then sub in the rear naturally. In the 7, lay it so it fires directly at the rear window ;P Nice long soundwave then.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
