Default Help wiring in new fronts to amp

Im going to go out and buy some new front splits (jaycar kevlar ones), right now Im just running the stock speakers in my VR berlina, but I have added a 4 channel sub and amp. It sounds ok with the added bass but the stock front speakers are really holding the sound quality of my system back. I have 2 free channels on my amp (channels 3 + 4 are bridged to run the sub). My amp produces 4 x 111 wrms @ 4ohm.

My question is, whats the best way to run the speaker wire from the amp in my boot to my door speakers, can I just run 2 lengths of cable to behind the head unit, and solder them onto the factory wires? I guess this is the easy way, since I have NO idea how I would get new cable into the doors. Would the stock cable be thick enough to take the current that my amps producing? My amp is pretty powerful, its an Infinity amp.

How have you guys done it? Also do I just run the lengths of cable either side of the car? The rcas are already in, they both go on the passenger side of the car, whereas the power cable goes on the driver side, to the amp.

The factory wires work fine. I did exactly what you describe and it works perfectly. My splits get that much power and more sometimes.

Remember that the stock wires are only driving the mid in the doors. So the stock wires are connected to the mid out on the xover. The tweeters are driven from the xover as well. So the total output of the amp is divided between the drivers.

Use good wire from the boot to the xover at the front though to reduce any chance of voltage drop. The short length of factory wire to the woofer is relatively insignificant.

Run the speaker wires with the RCAs.

    Cheers.

Edit: BTW your stock speakers will probably last about 10 seconds if you hook them up to that amp. Your not contemplating that are you? If you do for testing or whatever, make sure you keep the gain on the amp very low and be gentle with the volume knob.

No probs, say your thread on another forum. Had already answered the first part here.

I have a vt so may not be the same. Rhs behind the kick panel, double sided tape to the kickpanel itself. Lhs behind the glovebox on the plenum, existing screw hole and double sided tape. Don't use lhs kick as ecu is there, probably won't fit anyway.

I wanted a location that suited the factory installed length of the leads on my tweeters, less joins. In my case the tweeters are in the dash. Worked good. Anywhere they will fit is ok, up under the dash etc. Try to keep them away from possible sources of interference. Some people put them in the door trims, this is best if the tweeters are in the doors as well as the mids.

Where are you planning to put your tweeters?

    Cheers

the jvc site reckons that splits in the front don't need an amp. better off using the amp for speakers in the rear. and run the front splits just off the HU. Put speaker pods on the doors so they are angled at the front driver and passenger and supposedly this works excellent. just a thought.

Ok its all hooked up, just ran the wires front the amp on either side of the car meeting at the head unit where it connects to the front speaker cables. I turned the gain right down and it sounds better than before

Wait till you hear the midrange from the splits.

Make sure you high pass the fronts (chan 1 & 2) so that they don't see any sub bass. Around 80hz is a good start. LPF for the sub (Chan 3 & 4) should be set to around the same.

    Cheers.

should probably keep RCA's and speaker wire segregated. run speaker wires with power. the low impedance high voltage of the speaker signal is less likely to pick up any interference, whereas the low level high impedance RCA's will be affected by the current changes in the power wire, and also picking the signal of the speaker wire again.
so keep RCA's down one side, power and speakers down the other.

Seems to be ok with the way I did it, although when I install the splits I might put the power cable and speaker cables together. I have sheilded RCAs if that makes a difference.

Mate, its not that important but try and keep all the signal wires (RCA and speaker) on one side and the power wires on the other.

Never seen any noise issues myself, but heard of it.

If it works then leave it!

To put it simply, NO. You want your sound from the front.

A cheats way of wiring them up to an amp is like this...

disconnect the factory rear speakers connect the wires to the amp.

Then join the factory rear wires and the factory front wires together behind the headunit. Hey presto..... your new splits are completly wired in and no extra cable was ran.

Of course now, your issue is....how do oyu power the rear speakers? Easy... Another Amp!
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
