    Default Running In Subs?

I read in a past thread about having to run in your subs but it didnt give a final yes or no answer. So the question is do you have to run in subs when first hooked up? I never have before but the stereo im still buying and installing will be the biggest stereo i have had so i want to do things properly so any advice would be much appreciated and thanks in advance.

Also does anyone know where you can get really good quality sub boxes? all the ones i have seen where i am (wollongong) are shit ohh im looking for boxes for 2 15" subs and am willing to have them frieghted from anywhere.

    Thanks all once again

People say you should run them for a few hours at moderate levels to run them in. But I just make sure I don't crank them up in the first hour or so of use. The "running in" is just to loosen up any stiffness in the motor structure so nothing tears or breaks from cranking it to it's limits while it's still stiff.

The best sub boxes are custom made sub boxes... Make them yourself, it will be cheaper than a pro custom box and you can make it how you want it.

I Made my last 3 sub boxes (they boxes where more solid that the cars exept for my mini monstor truck which was a duel cab hilux with a custom box where the back seets where with 2 12's lol) but when i get the stuff in my car i will take things easy for a while and your right bout the building your own is better i looked at one on the weekend and the sales man was saying how good it was and my mate tapped it with his foot and the side fell out.......

    Thanks for your advice.

Not pumping it hard for the first day is certainly one way of doing it...although I'm a fan of the moderate level for half an hour at lower frerquencies.

either my way or StoneXs' way is perfectly fine....it certainly doesn't take long..

You don't just jump straight into hardcore training....you do a warm-up excercise first right? Same with subs...except you only have to do it once....

No problems thanks for the advice....

I think i might call for your advice in a month or so again regarding installing (a month or so till i get the rest of my gear) or even now.

i will be running 2 gauge power cable (i will be running 3 amps) and i heard you just used a splitter to aplit 3 wires off the one power cable would this be the correct procedure? also i have looked a few places for a splitter that would be big enought to split off a 2gauge wire into 3x 4 gauge but have had no luck... also one other question i will be running a capacitor i dont think you can but you cant split off the cap can you????

and any recomendation on what brand of capacitor?

    Cheers

Thanks thats about the only place i havent tried actually, but what sort of quality are they?

Only problem is i dont like there dishonest customer service though i had a chick friend go there to replace her whole system for an explod one and she thought they kept the old equipment and didnt get it back but she baught a whole new system and they kept the old one which consisted of 2x 12 clarion subs in the box, clarion head unit, 4 speakers and amp.

i know shes dumb for thinking that but they could of been honest enough to give it to her lol.....

but i will check it out thanks.

The power splitter is called a distribution block. All car audio stores have them. You don't need one with fuses if your amps all that fuses in them.

Why are you getting a capacitor?

I will be running 3 relatively large amps and i expect that they will draw large amounts of power and a capacitor ensures the sufficient power is there in reserve or is being provided doesnt it????? plus i expect it to make my lights and headlights etc dim when stereos on and the capacitor will stop that as well wont it????

or can you suggest something better to do or will it not be necesarry?

    cheers

The cap will basically only reduce headlight dimming. You should install everything else and then see if you have any electrical problems. No point wasting money on something you might not need.

How big are your amps? I have two at the moment, but soon to be three. My current two are rated at 2400Wrms x 1 and 200Wrms x 2, so 2800Wrms in total and I don't use a cap and only have minor headlight dimming in my VT.

well i dont want go out buying stuff i dont need

    but i will have 1x 4000watt 2channel amp (1000WRMS per channel) so 2000WRMS
    +
    also i will have 2x 2000watt 4channel amp which are 600-800WRMS each

so i will have about 3200-3600 WRMS if thats how you add it up???

    i will be powering 2x 15" subs and 6x 6.5 splits speakers.

thanks for your help please make any suggestions that you think may help.

Lanzar Vibe 4000Watt 2 channel - will be running about 1200watt per channel (2400watt all up)

    http://www.lanzar.com/sucategorylist...e&varpagenum=3

2x BLITZ 2000watt 4 channel (6channels will be used to begin with) at about 250 watt per channel (about 1500 all up)

www.blitzaudio.com (its in there somewhere lol)

so i think all together it will be 3900watts all together (is that correct?)

so do you think it will be nescesary?

The Lanzer does 1000Wrms x 2, but doesn't state an RMS bridged output. What will this be running?

The Blitz "2000Watt 4 channel" is actually 75Wrms x 4. So 300Wrms total. Two of those is 600Wrms total.

So all up, 2600Wrms worth of amps. I'd just install the stereo and see if you have an problems. Dimming lights isn't going to damage anything, so you can see if it happens before wasting money on a cap.

well if it wont cause any damage i wont worry about it then lol....

the Lanzar amp will be powering 2 Lanzar Vibe 15" subs.

the other to amps for my speakers.

Also i have seperate specs sheet for the Lanzar vibe amplifier that shows all the power ratings of the amp and it says it produces 1000 watt RMS per channel.

    thanks for the advice.

lol enough...... (its a secret) to be honest F' all lol......

but yeah i think it should be rather loud lol well i hope so lol.....

In deciding on the equipment i got i wasnt actually going for a stereo that blaired off its nut but im trying to make a stereo thats going to be loud, but very clear and good qaulity sound. i would rather have a stereo that might not be a screamer but is a little less loud that is clear sound that doesnt distort...... un like the rest of these idiots i see cruisin around town with about 300 decibels of distortion crabking that half of wollongong can hear lol.......

What made you look at Blitz amps? I've never seen them sold in Australia.
