    Question Amp & sub power

I'm currently investigating the purchase of a 10" sub and am interested in one of two Apline units. However I have two questions 1) is a 4 ohm or 2 ohm sub better/easier to power? and 2) what power amplifier would be needed to run the sub and the 4 other speakers.

Both subs rate the handling power at 300RMS and 900-1000max. and would be in a sealed box.

My ride is a VY Acclaim S/Wag with stock H/U. I've changed the front speakers to 6.5" 150watt splits and rears to 6" 150watt co-axial, and the sub/amp is next as soon as I get Phreddy to help me with the low output change.

    All answers welcomed.

ok 1st one amp for the speakers and a seperate amp for the woofer is needed.
a class ab 4 channel rated near your speakers should do. jaycar make a 4x50wrms and a 4x130wrms amps so that will cover most bases.

2nd how many subs are you planning on? will you want more in the future?
the jaycar 400wrms class d (monoblock) will power a 300wrms 4 ohm sub well with the sensitivity turned down a bit.
to decide if you want a 2 or 4 ohm voice coil (VC) sub really depends on if you perfer choclate or vanilla icecream. the choice matters that much normally. eg if you have 2x 4 ohm woofers wired so that the load @ the amp is 2 ohm or you can have 2x 2 ohm woofers wired so that the load is 4 ohm at the amp.
the main advantage of having a 2 ohm load presented to an amp is that it will almost double the amps output (with a small sacrifice in quality). providing your amp can handle a 2 ohm load. but remember that just because you speaker is rated to 300wrms or whatever having loss power doesnt really matter. doubling the power to a speaker only increases the volume a tiny bit.

    questions?

which alpine sub are you looking at?? My guess would be the sws-1042 and sws1022, type s. I think those are the numbers. If you're going to be running off an alpine amp, the 1042 would be better, as the 2 4ohm VC's can be placed in parallel to make a 2ohm load, perfect for alpine amps.

If you are tossing up between these 2 subs, stop. Find yourself an amplifier first, and yoiu can tell us, and we can tell you which will best suit your amp. The reason these subs are made in 2 different VC configurations is so they cna be better matched to amps
