Well I just went over to my local jaycar to check out amps, as they seem to be highly recommended here. Well I'm going to get one.. that part was easy. But now comes the task of getting front and read splits. Is jaycar reputable for their speakers, or should I be looking at different brands? Ideas anyone?
With speakers, it's best to use your own ears to see what you like. But demo boards can be decieving, so it's hard.
On Car Audio Australia forums they rave about the $150 Jaycar splits being great for the price, i'e never heard them though, so I can't comment.
Why do you plan to put splits in the back? I'd spend that extra money on better splits for the front and give the rear passengers some cheap crappy coaxials and have them faded out when there is no passengers.
Yeah that's what the plan was just didn't go into great detail. Just the 6" with tweeter in the center for the rear. I won't fade them out though, I like to be surrounded my sound =P
If the Jaycar splits are as good as everyone says, may as well put them in the back as well as they're not really that much more expensive than coax's.
I've only heard the speakers in the shop, but they did sound pretty good.
the jaycar splits r OK for the price.....but id personally rather save up and get some better ones... but if u dont wana spend too much jaycar is good.
I agree with VL-187. Save up some money to get good quality ones. I got Type X Alpine 6.5" but i'm just an Alpine gear person.
The Jaycar splits will work very well. They don't perform better then a pair of Type Xs but they do perform better then a pair of Type Rs.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
I built a system on a budget, and I couldn't be happier with them.. I guess it depends what your after, but I think they'd be fine for most people
StoneX...I really suggest you get in to listen to them.

I have a set of the jaycar 6.5 inch kevlar 2 ways in the back of my car. They have great sound quality and go hard. Would highly recommend them, especially for $120.
Thanks for all the advice guys, think I'll go with them. I'm not in my car long enough these days to warrant a $4000+ system. I'll go with what sounds fairly good and in the future if I want to upgrade, I'll hand them over to my sister =P
I have a set of th 6.5in splits in the front and 6x9 kevlars in the back of the VZ. They are both powered by a 4x50 Response amp. All naturally from Jaycar. One tip, if you can solder use Phreddys RCA converter, this will give you the best sound, otherwise Jaycar have 2 channel speaker to RCA converters that work really well and sound great.
I have done both the installs above and the results were outstanding. I just depends on your skill level and needs.
ps all comments on quality are made via a pair of 50 year old ears, but hell they still work, so I'll keep using them.
Have fun, Steve
The Jaycar splits and coaxials are great.
I had a set in my RX7 and was real happy with them.
Ive had Phreddy do the RCA conversion on my VY SS and will soon buy splits / coaxials / sub / amps from Jaycar. Ive had a test listen (audition!!) in his car and its sounds real nice.
Sure you can get better sound for big $$, but Jaycar gear puts most "brand name" gear in a similar or higher price range to shame.
...There's my two bob's worth...
