Default New Headunit in VS commodore - Recommendations?

    Hi guys,

I'm looking at updating the headunit in my VS, to something that has MP3 CD capability, and fits into the dash a bit better than my 4 year old Panasonic unit. An Ipod input would also be nice, but not essential.

Budget is around $300 to $400, and the unit must have the RCA outputs so I can hook up my amp.

    What do you recommend?

    Cheers!

You can buy my standard VS tape deck for $300

Actually no.. it's a bitch trying to find something I can plug my ipod into.. lack of CD player is good for something at least (3.5mm cd input on tape deck works with ipod too)

I have a Sony MP3 head unit which has 2 sets of RCA outputs and 1 set of inputs. I love it to bits because of its look and the excellent way in which the controls work. It does everything I want in exactly the way i want, for example: there are individual buttons for shuffle this album, shuffle entire disc, repeat this album and repeat this disc instead of a button that cycles through the modes. Its the little things that make it a pleasure to use. I haven't yet tried to use the input but there is a possibility that it is only selectable using the IP-BUS port (meant to be connected to a stacker). You'll have to investigate. Check out the sony web site. Unsure of the model number but its the one with the black face and VFD display instead of LCD. I have photos if you would like to have a look.

for your budget and what you need it to do id get a jvc or clarion h/u...
in the price range you mentioned you would be able to pick either brand and it will have those functions.

New Pioneer DEH-P4850MP has all of the above, though maybe slightly above your price.

The Ipod interface is optional but you can buy the HU and interface off ebay for $400 odd..

fizz_vk has one installed and i'll probably have one in on the weekend... has 2 RCA hookups.

Yeah that was one of the units I was looking at also. A mate of mine has the DEHP6750MP I think its an older model, that still does what I want. I don't know if its still available though. If you do install one of the new decks, can you post a photo of the install up on here, would love to see how it fits in the dash, as my current Panasonic is very bulky, and seems to stick out quite a bit.

    Cheers
