Dash stereo display in Vy

Hey, Just wondering If you replace the standard VY head unit with an after market, is there anyway you can make the dash display, i.e. where the odometer is still work?
I want a new head unit and have read about getting the steering wheel controls to work, but I would love it if i could keep the little dash screen as well.
I kind of like looking at it for track, radio station etc...

G'day RAZZA.

There are plenty more here who could answer your question better, but I've seen references to certain head units which can - apparently there's some kind of "standard" with the communications and some higher end units will work OK. I'm afreaid I can't give you any kind of model numbers or even manufacturers - although the name Alpine springs to mind.

I also would like to change my radio and keep the display. At present, I cannot find a system that is compatible. I have tried Alpine, and it is not compatible. There are modulators from Blaupankt, but they are only for the European imports like Astra and Barina, not the Aus cars.
