Hi... I just bought a VT Executive and am going to put a new Head Unit in but...
I need to know what the wires are from the Loom so if any of you could tell me what colors are what that would be greatly appreciated...
also how would i go about removing the stock Head Unit? the door trims to replace the speakers? and where can i run the wiring for the sub and amp in the boot?
cheers everyone mitch
Looking at the wiring diagram in my gregory’s manual on page 295
Light green (+ve)/green = front right speaker
Blue & orange (+ve)/ blue & black = back right speaker
Grey/Light Brown(+ve) = front left speaker
Yellow & blue/brown & black (+ve) = back left speaker
Black & white = ground
Light blue/white/yellow red/Grey = goes to BCM (now that’s weird, they have labeled two different wires as being the same color. From memory in my car there was only two or three wires going to the BCM, not four. I’m not quite sure what’s going on there)
Yellow goes to fuse No. 16
Yellow & blue or possibly orange and black (there is a junction in the schematic and apparently it’s one colour on one side, and the other colour on the other) goes to fuse no. 23. I think this wire is your constant 12 volts (not totally sure but) because on the schematic it also runs to the power aerial, BCM and mobile phone connection.
Brown & white go to fuse no. 11
I’ve never actually looked at this wiring diagram before so if someone could maybe clear up any of the questions I raised above I would appreciate it.
Removing the head unit is easy. Get two old wire coat hangers and bend them into a U shape and push them into the holes on each side of the head unit. Do a search. This has been answered a number of times and someone has posted pictures.
I won’t fully run through what to do (do a search, this has also been answered before). Basically remove all the screws, use a small flat blade screw driver to pull the red tag In the lock out. Remove window winders (if you have them) or if you have power windows just before totally removing the skin reach behind and disconnect them. lift the whole skin straight up for about an inch and then it should be free. BTW, put your windows down first. Makes it easier to put the skins back on.
If you have a manual run the power down the passenger side. There is a hole in the firewall up high behind the glove box. Run RCA’s down opposite side. If you have an auto you can use the hole the clutch cable goes through on the drivers side for the power (saves you a few dollars because you need less cable) and run RCA’s down the opposite side again. Put a fuse as close as you can to the battery.
Hide wiring under door the door jamb (tuck it down under the carpet). You will need a star shape type driver to remove screws holding the jamb in place so have a look before you go to install everything and make sure you have the driver needed to remove the screws.
Didn't you see the sticky thread called "VK-VZ Stereo wiring colours."?
All the other questions have been asked a heap of times aswell with some very good replies in other threads too![]()
push the end of a coat hanger in the holes at the side of the head unit then pull it out by the tape inlet
Buy an adapter from supercheap or similar, plugs into the vt loom then you connect it to the plug that came with your new HU. Depending on the HU, you can also get complete ready made ones for plug and play.
