    Default new sub box

i just blew my sub box to bits. so now i need a new one, i also just got another sub so itl need to be a double box. what i cant decide on is whether to go for a fibreglass box or an MDF box (obviously better than the last one).
and how much less accurate is a ported box than a sealed one? coz i like laod heavy bass, but i dont want sloppy bass.
    too many choices.
    any thoughts?

if your keen on a ported box and want punchy bass then probably try and find a dual bandpass box because they create sooooooooo much bass its just not funny plus they look cool in the boot too

It is basically a sealed and ported sub box in one... A big box with a seperating wall inside, the sub is mounted to the seperating wall, so it is in a seal box, but one side of the box is ported. It allows two tuning points, so the box only plays a band of frequencies, say between 30Hz and 80Hz and it increases the output a fair bit. They are quite difficult to design, even with the proper software you need to know what the graphs of the frequency response, group delay, vent velocity and thing mean.

I remember investigating fiberglass boxes a while back for a mate when he was installing a couple of subs. To buy the stuff for a fiberglass box is a lot more expensive than using good old MDF. I imagine it would also be more time consuming and difficult.

As long as the fiberglass layers are thick enough it should be just as good as using MDF. Don’t ask me how thick the fiberglass needs to be, I have NFI. I guess it would depend on the shape of the enclosure. 6 or 7mm maybe. It’s quite stiff stuff.

theres a place at the gold coast somewhere called "inovation audio" they are makeing off the shelf f/glass boxes for vt n stuff. the box sits in the rear corners or the boot and subs face forward. will cost about $370 each inc some dynamat. just waying up the options atm before i get it installed as a custom mdf box will cost about $450 fitted.
