    Default amp problem

hey i have a problem with my amp. i have a kicker kx.350.4
and i am getting high pitch whistle from one of the amps,
.. i have tried with differnt speakers and it still makes the sound so i know its not the speakers, also with front and rear rca's.
the pitch gets louder when the gain is turned up, and goes away when i turn the xover onto low or whatever its called

    cheers

Is it still there if you don't have RCA's plugged into it?

Don't unplug or plug RCA's while the amp/head unit are on.

no its not there without the rcas pluged into it.!!
    ???
but i have tried differnt rcas, the ones for the front pre out and the rear pre out both make the sound, but only while pluged into the 2nd amp, the 1st amp is fine, if i cant work it out i'll have to run my rears off the head unit but i dont wana do that, any ideas on what it could be

Sounds like it is something to do with the RCA's or the head unit to me. What brand/model head unit?

I have a feeling it might be the head unit... Rather than pulling your RCA's out, can you get a multimeter and your head unit out? If so, disconnect the head unit loom, RCA's and antenna then measure the resistance(or continuity) from the chassis (shell) of the head unit to the outside of the RCA sockets on the back of the head unit. It should measure very close to 0 ohm on resistance or beep (for a short circuit) on the continuity test.

Supercheap, (and i dare say most car audio places) sell these things (dont know what they are called, sorry) that plug into the main power wire to your head unit that is supposed to eliminate that noise. You would have to talk to someone who knows more about this stuff than me but i'm fairly sure that would fix the problem

They are noise filters... It's best to find the problem and fix the noise source rather than just filtering it out because it can still be there faintly or the filter can do nothing because it's a faulty product.

those high pitched noises, especially when you're revving your car, is probly due to your rca's coming from the headunit run down the same side as your power leads from the battery to the amp, it'll make these noises because the electromagnetic fields from your wires are, well, doin the no pants dance together....or just interfering with eachother if you want to put it that way

run your rca's and power leads down different sides of the car if they aren't already like this, it helps buying non cheap rca's too, like the double or triple shielded ones are supposed to help with reducing interference, for anyone who has this noise
