    Default Remote Wire Connection

Hey all, back again for another exciting episode of "so what on earth do i do now?"

Here's my problem... I have a Sony headunit (no that's not the problem although some might beg to argue) and on this sony headunit i need to run a wire from the remote terminal to switch on my amplifier when the headunit is on... I've bought myself an amplifier wiring kit... in this i have one long thin piece of cable which is the remote wire. Now i've asked others about it, and everyone i've talked to has has a small piece of wire already coming from the remote spot on their H/U which they then simply crimped or soldered to their remote wire and ran it through to the amp.

HOWEVER, on my headunit, the place where i am supposed to be connecting my remote wire to does not have wire already extending from the headunit, but rather has what appears to be a small plug/sockety thing. It almost looks a bit like a headphone spot on a walkman where you would plug your headphones into. (Yes, this is definitely the remote spot on the headunit and not for any other sort of input or output). I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar headunit and whether you can buy some sort of jack like connection that is made for it or something...

Any help much appreciated, thanks all.

hmm, is it a bullet terminal maybe? otherwise, is it just the one wire with a connector on it or multiple wires to that connector? if its one wire, cut it off and crimp your remote wire on.

hhmm nah i mean like there's physically no wire coming from the H/U remote spot... it's just a plug hole thing... like if you can picture a powerpoint on a wall... and you plug say a toaster into it... the remote spot on my H/U is like that in the sense that something has to plug into it.

Have a look at the diagram i've attached, it should show you what i mean a little clearer hopefully.

You arent confusing the remote power (generally yellow cable) - which you are looking for to turn other devices on, with a remote port - for a remote control (infra red, or on steering wheel)??

Yeah there should be a wire coming out with Earth, 12v, Accessory, Speakers, etc. on the same connection. Mine's solid blue, but mine's also Pioneer.
I don't use windscreen wipers, i just use the superior handling of the STI to dodge the rain drops.

Brycestro, it may also be called the ant(+) or trigger or rem(+) or somehthing similar. we really need to konw the model number of the headunit.

Ok... rechecked instruction manual... it refered to an optional steering wheel control attachment as the "remote" wire and hence the confusion. I have now found the wire i was chasing though and it's connected. Apologies to all those whose time i've wasted here
