Default Im no good with subs and amps...help

    hey,
i currently have 270w 6" infinity speakers in the rear and 160w 6" pioneer speakers in the front. i still haveto hookup crossovers and tweeters. When i have that in, im not sure what sub and amp to get. all i want is 1 12" sub and an amp to run it. any ideas? also the cheapest possible would be great but i still want good sound. Thankssss

try the jaycar amps aparently they are all right and are reasonably priced. $400 for a 800wrms mono block. then for a sub you will prob end up spending around the $200 mark. the 600w earthquakes seem all right. go have a look at jb hifi or at autobahn. mabey even try and pick something up second hand if thats to expensive for you. but then dnt forget you also need a box and wireing kit about a nother 100-150

The jaycar amps are good value for money. I would look elsewhere for a sub though. Not that the jaycar ones are bad at all. However, there are plenty around that offer better VFM IMHO. Try the entry level pioneer, alpine etc, but also look at JL audio, jbl etc. Stay away from subs that don't have proper documentation/specs.

DO NOT GO PAST JAYCAR STUFF, i used to think yeah good value for money but my mates complete response setup in his corona, is that insane its not funny. It beats anything ive heard apart from like shows n stuff but all my mates have twin pioneer subs and all kenwood setups n stuff but the response takes the cake.

hey guys, just doin some looking on Jaycar website, as i have had no time to go to the store, i found a 12INCH 4 OHM SUBWOOFER - DOUBLE MAGNET ($79) and a Response Car Amp 4x50WRMS ($199). Would it be ok to have that amp running the sub and speakers? On the Jaycar website it said that amp was capable of running an entire system. Just wanna make sure, if all is good, in a couple weeks ill go in and buy them. thanks guys

With that amp you could run your front OR rear speakers from two channels, and bridge the other two into the sub.

There are some clever wiring tricks which would allow you to run all "corners" and still bridge to the sub, but that requires some pretty slick impedance matching, plus an external passive crossover. Far better to have the impedances nicely matched and use the active crossover in the amp. My opinion, that's all.

Alternatively, get that amp in and running - maybe just run the front speakers out of the H/U for now - then save a bit more cash and add the 2x70W Response amp later on. When you hook that one up, you transfer the bridged channels to the front speakers, then bridge the 2x70W into the sub.

    *another sub/amp noob*

Looking at a vs wagon.. possibly a nice dual 12" sub/single box thing backed up against the rear seats.. is something like the 800w monoblock going to drive both of them well enough? Or should I be looking at something else? I'm happy enough to run the door speakers off the HU, they are only going to be 6.5" anyway...

If the jaycar ones (subs and amps) are good, i'll definitely look at those..

I reckon the monoblock would breeze it.

And BTW - yes, Jaycar stuff is pretty good. Not great, but definitely top bang for yer buck. Gets great write-ups too.

Yeah bang for buck is what i'm looking for.

Considering I'm just running 6.5" off the HU for everything else obviously i'm not expecting it to win comps But decent sound with good bass is what i'm after... and a nice dual sub box backed up against the rear seats could look good..
