    Default Power Cable

Hey all, back with another question about cabling.

After some helpful advice from some of you chaps i've decided that i'm going to be running a nice fat power cable from the battery through to a distribution block to then distribute the power to two amplifiers. Now i'm chasing some advice on what sort of power cable i should be looking at getting to run from the battery to the distribution block taking into consideration the following:
I'm going to be running a 6GA 600 watt power cable from the distribution block to one of the amplifiers to power my front and rear speakers. My other amplifier will be powering two Fusion Jonah Lomu 12" subs, each of which put out 650wrms or 1300 watt max. Now i've had a look on www.the12volt.com and found a handy table showing recommended power cable size by Power and distance:

    http://www.the12volt.com/info/recwirsz.asp

Now, correct me if i'm wrong but let's say that i'm getting around a total of 1660wrms all up (650 wrms x 2 for subs + 100 wrms each for rear speakers + 80 wrms each for front speakers) and am going to be running 20 feet (6 metres) of power cable. You'll see the table only goes to 2 gauge which is at 1400 wrms, so should i be running a 0 gauge cable from the battery to the distribution block really to be safe and give a little more power possible than necessary? (also allows me to hook up other stuff to that distribution block later on without taking away from the power of the stereo). And then should i be running say a 2 gauge power cable from the distribution block to the amplifier powering the subs??? (2 gauge supporting 1400 watts, 2 x subs equalling 1300 wrms).

Also, another issue to do with cabling i need cleared up is the sizes.... I've read what the approximate sizes are for the different gauges and some things say some quite phenominal sizes for 0 gauge power cables while others say reasonable sizes... For example another table on www.the12volt.com states that 0 gauge cable has a 0.3249 inch (about 8mm) diameter which seems quite reasonable... whereas other sources state phenominal sizes. Here's the 12volt.com link:

Does everything i've said sound about right to you lot? Please correct me if i've screwed up somewhere, that's the whole reason i'm posting here, to see if my logic is right for once :P. Thanks if you got this far!

This site has some useful info, including calculators etc. Try section 16 (wiring) to start with.

0 awg is huge, 4awg is about 8mm dia (the wire, not the insulation).

I'd use 4ga for anything around 1000Wrms, and 2ga for anything up to 2500Wrms... That probably doesn't match one of those tables, but it's just an easy guide I use for myself. I have 2800Wrms worth of amps and use 2ga still... but am planning on upgrading soon.

Anybody got any ideas on where the heck i'd find a battery terminal connector to suit a 0 AWG cable?

There are some very sweet Stinger terminals for 0 guage, with volt meters, available in gold coating or titanium or chrome finish.

There are alot of Australian stores that will post stuff like that. On Car Audio Australia there is a guy selling old stock from his store that he is closing down. He actually has 3 Stinger 0ga ring terminals for $17 each. Look ing the Trading Post area, his name is "advance".
