Ok my Esteem is about to be written off officially.. I'm looking at getting a new (to me) VS Calais... which usually have a 10 CD stacker in it.
I'm allowed to recover my Pioneer HU from the Esteem, so I'm just wondering, is it likely this would work with the Calais stacker? It's not a huge deal, the Pioneer HU is better and with MP3's it'll hold approx 10 cd's worth anyway, but a 10CD MP3 stacker would be really really cool :P
My question (if you haven't already guessed).. is it possibly the stacker may work with the Pioneer HU (DEH-P4850MP)? If not, is there any sort of adaptor? I don't mind spending a little on it to get it working, but if it's a lost cause I'll just use the Pioneer with the MP3 functionality (better pre-amp, better looking :P, etc).

It won't work easily and I doubt anyone has put the effort into making a special connector to convert them. The Pioneer have a IP-Bus connection which transfers sound and communication between their own stacker and other products. You can get a device that allows direct audio input into your Pioneer, but i'd say the Holden stacker would have a special connection and would need to be controlled by the Holden head unit. I think it'd be a lost cause... Just use the MP3 head unit and if you do want more music, get an iPod and adaptor.
The Holden stacker would only play normal CD's anyway, not MP3. Alpine is the only manufacturer, that I know of, who have a MP3 stacker.
Nah that's cool... won't waste my time on it then. I've got an ipod already and will probably get the pioneer adaptor for it (only $100 or something).
Wouldn't it be nice if they made all this stuff universal :P

Hmmm another question, probably needs a new topic but i'll try here first.
Another calais i'm looking at has an in-dash single din pop out dvd player.. obviously the 2nd din unit being filled by the dvd/cd player.
My question, are these screens universal? ie, obviously i wouldn't be able to drive it from my mp3 player, but would i be able to put a better dvd player HU in if i'm not happy with what's there? It looks like an older Pioneer unit (which may be ok... but i would like MP3).. but I'm not able to tell what it is. It's an older style with a rectangular display (not the dvd display- just the one on the HU).. a dial to the left and a dpad to the right.. it's a bit different to the current styles.

It depends on the brand, but most do have composite video inputs and most DVD players have composite video outputs.
If the screen is Pioneer, look up "Pioneer AVX" in Google and see if you can find a picture of the screen.

Mmm i don't know... screen I can't tell (i'm working off bad pics posted on car sites here)... the HU doesn't look like either.
Here's a pic off their site... About the best I can make off the HU is that it's pioneer, or something with a VERY similar logo...
Looking at replacing it with something like the DVH-P5850MP, which i've since found does have RCA outs.. so can't see an issue. Mmmmmm this would make a nice cruiser :P If only the stacker would work too... lol (even just as normal cd stacker, not mp3).
That would be sweet as.. MP3 CD or DVD in the HU, 10 CD's in the stacker, crankin tunes :P wonder if it would play mp3's off the dvd... i think i just wet myself.

That definitely looks like a Pioneer logo, but doesn't look like a Pioneer head unit unless is it an import or an unreleased Aussie model. I don't recognise the top unit at all.
Unfortunately, the DVH-P5850MP doesn't play MP3 from DVD mediaTheir new top model screen will though, from what i've heard.
Yeah it's strange.. i went hunting and couldn't find anything that looks like it at all..
If it does MP3's I'd be happy... that'd really be enough for me for now... actually cd would have to do for now.. lol. All really depends on how long insurance takes though, just been told it'll probably be a week before it's assessed & valued... no idea how much longer to actually get the payout. Hope the car is still there....

The DVD player is nice, even if the car has slightly higher km and is only S1... i know i know.. :P
Still a week before I know my payout figure and feck knows how long before i actually see it, I should stop looking and dreaming for the time being....
