Just thought id throw out there if anyone has fitted as yet an overhead DVD player in their ride? (Preferably a VT or VX vehicle) Would like to know if they have, how easy or difficult it was to fit and wire up and are there any recommendations on units for performance or usage. Any help would be greatly appreciated.![]()
As no one was able to help me in any reconmmendations, I have gone and purchased an overhead DVD player and will install the unit over the next couple of weeks and will keep the forum informed as to the effectiveness and operation of the unit as I go. If any help can be given as to how they work and if they are OK I would be grateful also!!![]()
Seen one in a VZ... I think you have to run the wiring up one of the pillars... looked pretty good but dont make the mistake of the people that installed his and dint the roof...
Driving a CURSED WH V6.
yer we have one in our adventra u hav to cut the headlining and bolt it to the centre frame in the middle of the roof, then the wires just run down the pillar under the scuff plates and into the dash, only took us a few hours, and it was a holden factory one we bought...cheaper to install ourselves...though it has had a few probs...
Need some parts for my VH 253:
Green standard steering wheel...Green lower B-pillar covers.
Green sunglasses holder/lower dash bits...Air-con and assorted engine bay parts.
PM with any info.
I noticed you trailed off and didnt mention what problems you were having with the unit. Im thinking of installing mine at the front between the visors due to the sunroof being fitted and the body of it running to the rear. Does yours have TV as an option? How are you able to play PS games on it and is the picture quality OK.Originally Posted by big_stretch
Hi, first post on this forum, full creds to everyone, very excellent information! I have a 15" Widescreen installed in my VSIII Statesman (i know its not a but VT, but..). Got the unit for $399 from Tonkins in Mt. Gambier (score!!) and got them to install it (full credit to the guys there - legends!). I believe if you wish to use the screen whilst the car is in motion, it has to be out of the drivers vision completely. I have an XBOX connected to it under the seat, and the picture quality is superb! Mine has two major cables coming from it in the roof. 1. Power, and 2. a cable running to a juntion box up under the dash with the RCA inputs on it.
Just to add... I watched them cut the lining in the roof, etc. The actually attach a mounting plate to the old interior light bracket, then the monitor attaches to that. Hope this helps!!
I did indeed have a fold down screen in my VP, and am now in the process of moving it into the roof on my VS. All I can say is absolute mongrel to get in, but worth it I guess.
You have to take off the roof lining, and to my knowledge and experimenting, there is no way to remove the whole lining from the car, albeit removing a window, which would make installing it a lot easier.
It's a matter of removing the handles, sun visors, mirror (if not attached to windscreen) interior lighting. Then carefully prying the lining off the velcro tabs in the roof, removing it from strutt fixtures then finally getting it low enough to put in place the holding plate which secures the screen to the roof.
Before you go for it, might be a good idea to get your hands on some extra velcro tabs, incase you snap a few. Also make sure that you buy enough cable, and perhaps some nylon plugs to hook up wiring, or if you're handy with an iron, solder them up.
Also, don't forget to mark out where you want the screen to go. Nothing worse than hooking it up and finding that it isn't square, or it gets in the way of your interior light.
Who-dares-winS
Well I finally bit the bullet and installed the overhead DVD unit in my vehicle between the two front visors of the vehicle. I can understand why guys, once these are installed never want to remove them again :b: . What a bugger to install and wire up!! I installed the TV aerial under the parcel shelf in the boot and ran the cable up under the hoodlining trim and into the front compartment. I am very happy with the result and the picture is crystal clear, so am looking forward to playing the first porno in the car!!! LOL Thanx to all those that posted and will take some pics of the finished item and will post soon with this thread.![]()
