Im upgrading the sound in my VN wagon, Firstly what should i do with front speakers?
Should i relocate them to the Door trims or should i leave them on the dash?
also what should i do with rear speakers, im looking at installing two subs, amps but what size should i go to, do i really need two amps?
And lastly, what are the best brands around these days?
Sorry to ask for so much guys, but i dont really know much about car audio.
THANKS
If you don't want to cut your doors, then 4" splits in the dash work nicely. If you're happy to get out the cutting tools, then 6" splits up front can be nice.
Down the back, 6" co-axial speakers should do fine, and will sound a shitload better than 6x9's
As for the amps, one four channel to run the four speakers and either a two channel or a monoblock to deal with the subs. So yeah...two amps is the way to go. As for brand...take your pick...go to a professional car audio store and have a listen to a whole stack of different gear and pick which ones you like the best.
Gravity is proof that nature keeps getting us down.
Agree with above, but I wouldn't even have 4" as an option, definitely use the doors for 6" or 6.5" speakers![]()
Why not have 4 inch in the dash and 6 inch in the doors? Thats the choice i made.
I got Soundstream 4 inch Picasso speakers with 60 watts rms sitting in the dash with Tarantula grills. They dont fit under the stock speaker covers with the grills on though. Soundstream also have 85rms options in the 4 inch line-up.
The best part is, 4 inch speakers are cheap, for instance the Soundstream 4 inch were $130. not bad for a top quality brand with great sound quality and 60 watts rms.
Then put some 6 inch splits in your doors. Pioneers or if you have more money, Soundstreams. As a note, most 6 inch and 6.5inch speakers are exactly the same size. Its just some brands measure the speaker, while others include the grills which add that extra half inch.
Why not run 4in and 6in... Because you shouldn't have different size speakers playing the same frequencies as it'll cause audio issues and make it sound worse than if it was just a 6". If you use filters to limit what each speaker plays and there is no overlap it is fine but that is pretty complicated.
6" and 6.5" are different, the holes are further apart on the 6.5", as they are a larger speaker.
Why are you recommending him brands? He might not like the brightness of Pioneer speakers... Let him make his own choice as there are much nicer sound speakers out there.
