Hi all
I want to install steering wheel audio controls on my vt berlina, which I believe are standard on vx's. Would these audio controls work on the vt berlina stereo (single cd type)?
Has anyone ever done this before? Is it a simple job? Whats involved? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi Steve,
No you'll need to upgrade the headunit to either the VT Calais/ Senator headunit or a VX headunit. Then you will need to purchase a VX clockspring for the steering wheel and the buttons for either side. Easy to install I have done it twice.
You can purchase a new headunit from www.nvu.com.au for $590. With this in mind you'd be better off to get yourself a nice Pioneer headunit, filler pocket and the pioneer steering wheel remote.
Cheers, Chris.
I'm sorry but I dont agree with Krizto on this one. The units he is advising from NVU are correct in that they fit a VT & VX but the standard single CD originally fitted into the VT is the same unit that also fits the VX. So if the steering controls work in the VX then they should also be able to be hooked up to the standard VT model as well. I have just been through this exercise and even though I replaced the head unit withy a Calais unit I believe there is no reason after looking at the wiring that the standard unit couldnt be wired up as well. You only need the common earth that is already on the main wiring harness for the standard unit and then locate the signal wire to switch. Yes you will need a new clockspring and I got mine on Ebay for nicks, but overall the job is not too hard but just a little fiddly!! PM me if you need help. I have also listed a post on doing this job in the audio section so have a look.
