Hi Everyone,
Could someone please tell me wat the 4 wires (2 red, 2 black) that run from my amp do exaclty. I know they are the audio out but what is each one for.
The reason i ask is because i am changing my head unit, to a DVD, and it only has 2 audio in and 2 audio out cables. Where as the old one had 2 audio out and 2 AUX in cable running to the amp. Is the new headunit compatible?
Thanks,
Todd
Take a photo.
Are they just wires? Or do they have plugs on the end?
An amp has wires that run FROM it to your speakers and RCA leads that run FROM your head unit TO the amp.
Now, an amp needs sound to come IN to it via the RCA's, that means the head unit must send the sound OUT of it via RCA's.
You just told us you old head unit had; 2 OUT and 2 IN. Then you said the new one has; 2 OUT and 2 IN. To me that sounds like they have the same plugs...
Take some photos so we can work out what you're talking about![]()
Thanks StoneX
Sorry, now i've comfused every1 else as well
Yeah they are plugs. they are running from the amp to the headunit. I know that they are audio out from headunit to amp, wat i dont understand is why the old headunit had AUX IN cables (according to the diagram stcker on the HU) going to the amp.
Does this mean that my AUDIO IN cables will just do the same thing??
Thanks,
Todd
AUX(ILLARY) IN is the same as AUDIO IN. I have no idea why the amp would be connected to those. They are used to plug external audio sources into, an amp isn't an external audio source. Maybe someone just wired it like that because they didn't know what they were doing.
is it possible that they changed the AUX IN cables to another 2 audio out cables. i just dunno which should plug into what, or if i should split the two AUDIO OUT cables i have into 4.
Todd
4 channel
2 to the sub
and 1 to each of the 6x9's
Some amps allow on set of RCA's(2 plugs - Left & Right) to be used for all 4 channels, but usually you will need to split the two from the head unit into 4, like you said.
