Firstly, Hello to all the forum - i'm new here and already quite impressed about the sites content. Just one question someone might be able to help with. I have recently brought a 1996 Series 2 VS Calais. Trouble is the factory (Eurovox) CD stacker has developed a fault, a code (E-99) comes up on the factory head unit and refuses to play any CD's. Does a Haynes workshop manual have these codes? I currently don't have one. Thanks for your help.
The workshop manual doesn't cover any of the fault codes listed for the CD stackers this was considered an option and wasn't covered in the book. Will the stacker play any CD's at all? If not you may find the main power printed circuit board broken inside the unit. (Available as a spare part from Eurovox)I've found that the units don't like to play some burnt CD's either (don't ask me why!)
I have pulled the CD stacker out so i tighten the connector strap cause it seemed loose, and that did seem to help the situation. I will have to try a burnt CD to see if it does work, it may not because of a lower quality laser, or just because i have dirty CD's and have to clean them. Not going to give up on it yet. If it does cause me to much prob, will go find a nice aftermarket head unit and stacker.
Had the same E-99 problem in my VT Calais. Try out "bought" CDs for performance. Maybe incompatible with burners / CDs etc.
Thanks guys, looks like i can't play burn't CD's to well in the current stacker. Will have to upgrade the system sometime to add Mp3/WMA to the mix.
The stock CD stacker in those cars only plays WMA format CD's... in Nero there is an option to just burnt an Audio CD.. instead of a WMA or a MP3 disc.
the difference is that the stock units work on track length... when u burnt an "Audio Cd" you get 80Minutes of playback time.. instead of showing how much space is taken up on the disc.. Ive found that if all the songs are WMA and an "Audio CD" is burnt using those WMA files the Unit plays them without a problem.
its worth upgrading thou because those Cd stackers are known to break very easily and the fact that they work on time instead of file type means your very limited to the amount of songs each disc can hold.. the most ive gotten out of one disc burnt in this format is 20songs.
