Default Jaycar Amp - Bass remote (how to use?)

    Hey guys,

I got my system a while ago, and my amp came with a little amp remote - I plugged it in and the little light came on, but it didnt seem to do anything? Is there a switch i need to flick?

should adjust the gain for your amp, unless you got it all the way up on amp itself? dunno. i know it comes in handy, mines in my centre console.

Mines pretty close to all the way up, but not 100%. The remote didn't seem to do a thing when i fiddled around with it - it lit up, but turning the knob did nothing. I'll give it a go tomorrow...

I forgot to bring it to work (of course) i'll give it a go when i get home! If I just turn the gain for my rears to half way, and leave the fronts at 90%, would I have control over just the rears? 'Cos thats all I really want, so I can turn it up for "Bass" songs, and down a bit for normal... and because I think the remote is cool, and would look good in my little shelf in the arm rest, in the bottom left corner of this pic:

Pretty sure that it only works when channel 3&4 are bridged. It works fine on my 4x100 this way. It only lowers the gain from that set on the amp also, it won't raise it.

You should get a sub so you can use the remote. You will be amazed how much better your system sounds.

BTW the power led on the remote is REAL bright blue!

    Cheers

    LOL
You won't look back if you do!

It's not just doof doof, it fills in the bottom of the music. Like a whole octave, if not two lower than your 6x9s.

Also great fun (therapy in the shed) making different boxes and hearing the result.

    anyway, have fun with it.

God damn hell yeah! After a week when work has sucked hard, what's better than sitting in the garage and mucking around with making stuff?

    G'day guys.

I have a question relating to this - I'm in the middle of uprgading my system, based around two of the Response amps. (4x50 and 2x80)

If that bass boost control is left unplugged, does everything still work OK?? Does anyone know a little more detail about how it works? For example, is it simply feeding the audio all the way along that (cheap and nasty) cable to the remote knob, then all the way back to the amp??

If it IS that way, I wouldn't use it in my system! Too much opportunity for stray noise to find its way into the system for my liking. Would be MUCH better if it was simply varying a DC level with the knob, then using that DC to control the gain level back at at the amp. Hmmm - maybe it does do that.... I might start work on an "automatic" bass boost setup - bass level increases with road speed - Hmmmmm...... Got me thinking now. Dammit, that hurts!

Mine works fine without the remote, but it apparently depends on your amp configuration. They would have to be stupid to send the audio through it, and I'm 99% sure they dont do that. Good luck!

Thanks Jack - reckon I might get the multimeter and 'scope out when I get it all fired up, take a couple of measurements.

I agree that it would be ridiculous to run the audio up and down that crappy phone cable!! Must be some kind of DC VCA or VCF. Anyway, will let y'all know what I find.
